Q: How does the dimmer connect? Is it a switch control at the outlet, or a hardwire from the light unit? What are the two little wires for?

You must buy a switch to dim. Light comes pre wired with the 2 leads caped. Switchs are inexpensive small dials with Numbered 0 to 10 from fully dim to fully lit. Will need below link and low voltage wire. For each light or can run all of one dimmer switch.
