Q: After 4 weeks I'm getting sparse germination. What temperature range does this grass grow best?

I am in Concord CA, where the temperature has been very warm (60's-80's). It has taken a good 10-12 weeks for the grass seed to really germinate and fill in. Be patient, water every day and you will eventually have a lawn.

Q: Will this grass withstand Michigan winters?

My Dear Leah M., Well, according to the SPF-30 description, it is a modified Bluegrass. That is a lawn grass which is a cool season grass. Now, I have used SPF-30 in several locations in my lawn (Nashville area) and it germinates quickly which I like. It is a very thin-bladed grass but grows densely. If you like a thin bladed gras, try some SPF-30. It seems hardy where I have used it, beneath trees and in heavily compacted soils. It does well. You can't let it get too long, though, for it lays over rather than cuts (unless you have a reel mower like golf courses). My Snapper mower is a standard rotary blade. Bluegrass is a "Cool Season" grass and should do well in Michigan. Go to "Outside Pride" web site and read about it. You'll find out some good info. Hope this helps you.

Johnny, SPF-30 is a bluegrass. Bluegrass is a cool season grass growing best in Spring, Fall and Winter. However, SPF -30 is a hybrid and has a lot of success in warm climates, like Texas. I suggest you go to Outside Pride web site, and search under grasses for SPF-30. This will give you valuable information.
