Q: Can you use this when lying down flat on the bed like sleeping?

You can use it anyway you want. Best is to use it with your leg slightly bent, it allows better vibration treatment. I think laying on your side would shunt the vibration efficiently on the side against the bed.

Q: If not using should i take the battery out

its rechargeable, so you can't take out the battery pack

Q: Can you take in a carry on bag on a plane?

If you are going to take it on a plane, I would advise you to take it as a carry on. The airlines are asking that you not place this type of item in your checked baggage because of the battery pack.

I got this off of google: Diode optical emitters have a number of properties. One is the band of emission - and infrared is a band of light with a longer wavelength than visible light. The other is type of emission - ordinary LEDs emit incoherent light. Laser emissions are coherent light which means it is all in exact phase - giving it laser properties. So LED or optical diode emitters can be both laser or not and can be visible or IR wavelengths; different properties.
