Great for us non-Gnostics.
A really really well down translation with excellent commentary. This is really the only way to understand a translation of Ibn 'Arabi, with thorough commentary. I don't think I could make sense of the convoluted verbosity otherwise, haha. I love Shaykh al-Akbar, but he certainly is difficult to understand for the non-gnostics out there. Albeit, this is much easier to understand than Tarjuman al-Ashwaq, Diwan al-Ma'arif or the Futuhat.Just to be clear this is not really poetry, but rather prose with the occasional line(s) of poetry in each chapter. My only con is that it is not bilingual.

It has more dimension than I expected arising from the page
bought this along with "The Bezels of Wisdom". They make a great pair by comparison. The latter is a flat translation, the former, "Wisdom" promises much more in the reading. It is much more dense than "Bezels", but less monotonous. Had I only one book budget, no question I would go for "Ringstones" and just look at the cover, and compare the two translations' renditions of cArabi's introduction to get a sense of the difference. benguile3
