Pretty and smell great
Update April 2025: 11 of the 12 bulbs came up. I have blooms on about 6 so far. Purple, light pink, and white so far. Very pretty and smell great. They are a little smaller than ones I have bought already growing from the store but this is my first time ever growing these, and I'm happy with my purchase. Would buy again.Like another reviewer, while planting these bulbs (I wasn't wearing gloves), my face and neck started itching. I've never planted hyacinths before but googling it said this can happen, so I recommend wearing gloves and not touching your face at all. It stopped itching pretty quickly after I washed my hands and face and took an antihistamine.Eleven out of the 12 bulbs appeared healthy to me. The last bulb was very small. I'll try to update this post in the spring. This is my first time ever planting any bulbs. My cat died in August, and I'm planting bulbs on and around her grave. I really hope they grow. These arrived almost a week earlier than the estimated delivery date. They arrived in a bag with all the basic info I wanted--height, planting depth, planting spacing, and bloom time.

Terrible, terrible - beware "Rufina Tropicals"
Hyacinth are my absolute FAVORITE flower and bulb to grow. I have a lot of experience growing them. I've never ordered bulbs online before, so I thought I'd give it a shot.Wow. The seller - "Rufina Tropicals" - has been a mess to deal with, but I will review them in their seller page. The product that actually arrived... I'm not sure if they even are the genuine product. Hyacinth bulbs, depending on the variety and care, are very distinctive, and usually about the size of a lime. A dozen of them should have been in roughly a gallon-sized bag. I have no idea what I actually received. These came in a roughly 3x5" padded enveloped, and are about the size of a small pebble. I bought vases to force these bulbs, but that is going to be impossible as these will just fall into the water. A "real" hyacinth wouldn't have that problem. I have no idea if these are just terrible, dwarfed bulbs, or something completely different, but they are not what you would expect, and certainly not what is depicted on the pictures of this product. All of these are in bad shape, too. I am going to plant them to see what happens, but I'm not expecting much. You can see from this picture that they are tiny, weird little things. Some of them are smaller than a penny. The largest of them is about the size of a nickle. So very disappointed. :(** UPDATE **As I said, I've grown many Hyacinth bulbs in the past, so I know what I am doing. I planted whatever these were, and nothing ever grew. So, yeah, a complete waste of time and money. :(

These guys are hardy!
Not sure this matters since the product is unavailable now but I'm gonna review it anyways.Packaging and Quantity:So here's what I got. Out of the 12 bulbs, 10 were purple and 2 were white. I don't know if thats a hint for what colors I got but that's what I got. In the package they were gathered in a plastic bag with air holes, along with a receipt. They do not come with any weather protection like ice packs or heat packs which honestly might be good since these bulbs don't like high humidity or moisture.Safety:As others have said, make sure to use gloves or these will cause a fierce itch due to calcium oxalate crystals. If you do end up touching the bulbs, you won't die (I touched because I am a woman of science), a good long rise of soap and water should alleviate the itching and if not, try some lotion. Regardless of whether you feel the itching or not, wash your hands because it can be toxic if consumed.Appearance:They mostly looked okay, the pictures show what I was working with. All bulbs had a sprouted tip with dead roots (which can easily be regrown). 2 had a bit of black mold that I cleaned off with rubbing alcohol. It was a bit hard to do when the bulb's onion-like layers fall off at the slightest hint of pressure but the mold eventually came off. 1 looked... what I think is partially dead? rotted? dry? Now I know that sounds alarming but I say I "think" because when I cut it in half, it seemed pretty healthy on the inside [the picture shows one dry(?) and one moldy cut in half]. It felt like chopping into a hard onion and leaked a bit of juices. Since the inside of the plant was alive, then maybe if I had just cut away at the dry/dead bits then it still would've thrived. I've seen videos of people cutting off just the root base of an onion and growing an entirely new onion from it, so I'm going to try that as a separate experiment. The rest looked like the third photo, a bit ugly but healthy. I decided to grow 1 moldy, and 2 uglies (or 2 purple, 1 white).UPDATE: I tried the cut bulb experiment, it did still root itself but it was SO hard to keep mold from growing onto the exposed bulb so I ended up tossing it. It would probably work better if buried in soil and not grown hydroponically.Hardiness/Growth:Overall while the bulbs might not come in looking pretty, they seem pretty hardy. I thought the dead roots would make it hard for them to start growing, but after 3 days of hydroponic growth new strong roots are already making their way (as seen in the last photo). I still rub/spray a bit of watered-down rubbing alcohol every other day on the bulb to make sure the mold doesn't return, but if you're planting it into the ground I'm sure that if you're thorough on your first wipe down then the bulb will be okay.Size:I bought them too late, it's the tale end of winter and I've researched that if the bulbs are not kept in a cold period for long enough, their stems will not grow very tall and they'll start flowering before they're ready. After a week they haven't grown much besides their roots so I can't say anything yet, but I am expecting a short size for my first flowering. If you want a taller Hyacinth, be sure to plant it at the start of winter or in a cold environment and keep the plant away from any heat sources. UPDATE: After 2 weeks my hyacinths have started to prematurely flower as expected but have grown surprisingly tall. Roots are at 6 inches, Flower is at 5 inches. Growth stages between each flower is a bit staggered, but only by 2-3 days. Once all flowers have fully formed and bloomed I will cut them off to help the plants' future growth. I might also have to start trimming the roots. UPDATE 2: After 3 Weeks my three flower stems are at 8, 8.5, and 4 inches with flowers sprouting at the top 4, 4, and 3 inches. The White bulb is the shortest one, I think it's still growing. The other 2 made it into the average height of hyacinths and after blooming for about 5 days one has started to naturally wither.Color Variation: Out of the 3 that I've planted I got 2 Light Pink, and White from the 2 Purple bulbs and white bulb respectively. Perhaps I was just unlucky in choosing which bulbs to plant but heres to hoping for purple or dark pink in future plantings. They all smell strong, but nice. Conclusion: Gardening is kinda gross and messy :/ but many things in nature have adapted to this rough life. This includes these hyacinths because any mold or blemishes did not seem to effect it's growth. As long as you set it up for success, it'll probably grow. Just make sure the bulb itself doesn't stay wet for extended periods of time, keep it away from heat, use rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip or disposable tissue to get rid of any mold, and start growing it in the colder months. I am satisfied with the bulbs this company provided.
