The Cupcake Diaries: Recipes and Memories from the Sisters of Georgetown Cupcake Hardcover – Illustrated, November 8, 2011

I love this book!! The girls let us in on family memories and stories. There are wonderful personal photographs included and the "staged" photographs specifically completed for the book are also great. This book has a lot of information packed into it. I have not read the entire book from cover to cover just yet but I have definitely read a significant part and the information seems on point. Of course, there are a lot of cupcake recipes but there are also different recipes from their Babee like Baklava and other sweet treats! The family memories that go with them are heartwarming.I have not tried any of the recipes in the book yet. I am going to bake the vanilla cupcakes with the vanilla buttercream frosting tonight so I will update my review and let you know how they turned out. I have high hopes that the girls have taken just as much effort into these recipes as they have with the ones that they use for their cupcakery.Update 11/13:I have now made the Vanilla cupcakes w/ Vanilla Buttercream frosting and the Red Velvet cupcakes with the Vanilla Cream Cheese frosting. I took the Vanilla cupcakes to work and everyone was raving. They were still talking about them the next day! I made the Red Velvets over the weekend because this type of cake has been my nemesis!! However, these were moist and flavorful...two things that were missing in previous tries. My family really enjoyed them and my mom took 6 of them home! My next experiment will be w/ the Chocolate cupcake recipe from the Chocolate Goo-nache recipe w/ the chocolate ganache and the carmelized hazelnuts. I am very hopeful and excited.

I happened upon Georgetown Cupcakes about a month ago on a family trip to DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival. We went to the store and really were very fortunate as we did not have to stand in line to enjoy their wonderful cupcakes. I saw the book up on the counter and that evening I purchased it on-line through Amazon.The first recipe I made was the Chocolate Cupcakes with Vanilla Cream Cheese Icing and the cupcakes were absolutely fantastic! I've made the chocolate cupcakes three times now and they have turned out perfect each and every time. I have also now made the Hummingbird Cupcakes, the Lemon Blossom Cupcakes, and the Vanilla Buttercream Cupcakes and each and every recipe has resulted in rave reviews from my family, friends and coworkers.I did order the butter, vanilla, and cocoa recommended in the book and I do really believe that the ingredients do make a difference.I very much recommend this book!

I haven't tried all the recipes yet but so far I've been very successful. With good enough preparation it was even easy to make some with the kids (3 years)!The memories part... it's in there and if you get a kick out of the show (for entertaining purposes) then it's a nice lecture when there's time to spare. Other than that it's kind of hard to get to the recipes by just flipping through the pages, you might skip them by accident because they seem so integrated in the text.On the other hand that is what makes it a nice "story-recipe-book". It is a little sentimental and cheesy, but that's okay, at the latest after you had one of those delicious cupcakes and you can say: I made those myself!I gave it four stars because as a recipe book it does not serve a really good purpose, it should probably be called Memories and a few recipes from the Sisters of Georgetown Cupcake, just to avoid different expectations ;)

I have this book as well as there newest one. Some people do not like their cupcakes and personally I think that is there taste because everyone has different palates. Personally, I think their cupcakes are amazing. I have made various cupcakes from both books and not one has been a failed recipe. I have books from other famed chefs and some recipes are hit or miss. I do not like heavy, dense cupcakes and all of theirs are light and fluffy and full of flavor. Their frostings are also to die for. I feel that their recipes are also easy to follow if you do not have baking experience. I love to bake and make cupcakes and I think they have creative flavors. I have also brought their cupcakes to parties and to work and have only had raving compliments. I highly recommend this book and their second one. I will agree with one previous poster that for some reason in this book the amounts that the cupcakes should yield are way off and I can tell before making the cupcakes by the amount of ingredients to be used. I always yield more cupcakes than what it says but hey I do not see that as a bad thing ha ha ha. Buy this book!

I love this book! Their stories are very sweet and its fun to hear the history of each recipe. I enjoy the tips they provide throughout the book that have helped me w my baking.So far I've made the salted caramel -- delicious!, the birthday cupcakes, md made the coffe cream cheese frosting and the strawberry frosting from the chocolate cake. The frstings have been spot on. The cupcakes are very delicious but not as light and airy as the store. But I expect that! They are the professionals.I recommend this book for the recipes as well as the helpful baking tips.

I watched the TV series but enjoyed their book so much more. It gave a history of the girls and their lives and great tips - like - don't put your cupcakes in the refrigerator! Their recipes and seasonal themes are great (though living in Australia it is up side down). Well done Katherine and Sophie (and dearest Mommy). But aren't those pink 'wellies' hot and uncomfortable! Good luck....hope to get to DC one day and will be happy to join the queue! Go girls!

I enjoy the book so much and love how I can get to know both Sophie and Katherine.I read the book in one go, I just couldn't put down the book. It has so many useful tricks, delicious recipes and memorable pictures. It's the must-have book for DC Cupcakes fans or for people who like baking out there. I learn a lot. If they were to release the 2nd diary, I am already on the pre-order list!
