A Guide To Know India's View Of The World
I have always admired Mr Shyam Saran, who served as India's foreign secretary. His scholarly insight into origins and evolution of India's foreign policy articulated in a simple and flowing prose makes for a compelling read. It was with this expectation that I picked up How India Sees The World and I elated to share that I feel all the more enriched and educated on this complex subject. He digs into ancient Indian philosophy as most famously enunciated in the statecraft doctrine of Kautilya aka Chanakya to explain how present outlook of India's relations with the world has been shaped. According to him, India is a diehard votary of peace, yet a deft practitioner of force if forced to. If we have to understand swiftly changing landscape of international order, we have to read this book.

Till 2017-18. It is a 'not able to put down' book.
I am half way through. It is very interesting first person account of international scenario which concerns Indian interests. Gives you precise and important instances with chronology of events. If you are acquainted with geographical locations of India's neighborhood, then you won't find this book boring and it will be an easy read for you. Fragrance of book is 'freshly baked and intoxicating'.Happy reading but please check inside as soon as you receive this book for any faded prints because I have an incomplete sentence in my book (so 4 stars otherwise it's 5).

Foreign Policy made easy!
Ambassador Saran candidly waves a fine tapestry of foreign policy narrative. Though there are innumerable books on India's Foreign Policy, this books stands out, as the smart diplomat unravels his keen observations in front of the reader. The chapters on China, Nepal, Climate and 123 Agreement are very interesting. One can appreciate the reasons why China remains a mysterious country for Indians.Undoubtedly the reader will fall in love with Bush who was responsible for channelling the present India US relations. With personal anecdotes littered all across the book, it is definitely a joyride.Go get this one for a weekend read! Easy to read and light on the brain.
