Q: To play CDs, can you just drop CDs in and close the lid or do they need to be "snapped" in? I am looking to buy as a gift for my elderly mother.

Hi - the CD does actually need to be centered and snapped in to play. It's easy to do but it's definitely not a drop-in and close type of system. Also, it doesn't read all CDs well, not even the few brand new ones that I own, so it can cause some frustration. As someone who works with the elderly, I would go with a simpler model.

Q: Does it have an alarm clock function?

FYI . . . Back In College . . . We Bought "Timers" That Had An "Electric Plug-In Socket" . . . So We Could Wind The Dial To The Number Of Hours Until Needing To Wake-Up . . . Plug Our Stereo's In To That Socket . . . And Get Up To Loud Stereo . . . Music ! ! ! . . . BUT . . . If I Tried That Now . . . At Age 61 . . . The Shock And Noise . . . Would Probably . . . Hurt Me . . . Somehow.

Q: DOES IT WORK ON AC PLUG AND IS IT INCLUDED

yes it's really fantastic value for money and it does have a plug I don't run mine on batteries are you kidding that would be so expensive! I use it out on my patio and by my pool. I'm old fashioned I like to have this kind of sound system. not into the modern stuff where you can load 900 toons onto an mp3 player so this might not be everyone's cup of tea but I love it it suits me uncomplicated!
