LG 29UM57-P 29IN Ultrawide IPS LED Monitor 2560X1080 Glossy Black

I purchased this monitor as my eyeballs no longer focus on a 15.6" notebook display and I have to squint too much. I purchased a 55" LG TV June 2015 that has returned perfect service; so i looked long and hard for a cheap LG monitor. I'm cheap but I did want the in-planeswitching (IPS) panel newest tech display. And I found this beauty. But me and her wrestled a little bit before I tamed this wild filly. FIRST, read the specs and reviews. Only has 2 HDMI ports. This could be a deal breaker if you don't have an HDMI port out on your notebook or older pc. My notebook is vintage 2010, but it was high end i7 at the time, so no HDMI, but it did have a Display Port jack out. So I ordered a Display port to HDMI adapter at the same time I ordered the monitor. Both arrived same day. Plugged it in and it worked perfectly! IT was ONLY when I started to "adjust" the resolution that I wondered if I got a Defect or not. When I tried to adjust the display, it started working for a few secs and then would switch off and restart. Really hard to readjust the display back while waiting for the few seconds of display before the blackout reboot. IT (both PC and monitor) wanted to display 2550, but it really didn't work. So, first step install the LG information data into the windows directory from the LG display CDROM. Still not the joy I was looking for. So then I went back to my PC manufacturer, HP, and found a new Nvidia driver update from 2015 for my notebook (HP still updates 5 year-old laptops with new drivers, Kudos to HP!) Installed the new Nvidia system and viola! it recognized the monitor and had drivers for the recommended 1920x1080 display! Rock solid display, beautiful colors, I may find a review some day where the tester listed the multi-adjustment settings for perfect color, but I'm am very happy with out of the box performance today. A week so far of crystal-clear viewing, so easy on the eyes! The takeaway here is do your homework b4 you buy if you are fitting this new tech display to a now "obsolete" older PC or notebook to make sure your old equipment has the drivers and ports needed to reign in this thoroughbred. Note this is an "older" IPS monitor, discontinued according to the LG website (my monitors build date is October 2015), so absolutely stone age, but I love it!

This arrived this morning and physically, it looks good, it's wide, it looks nice. I also found it easy to put it together (you only need a screwdriver). It came with a CD and I installed the Split Screen and the Dual Controller for mac. Then I hooked up the HDMI and there was connection right away, yay..However, the image on the screen looked stretched out and after fiddling around with the monitor's settings, I found that setting the ratio to "Normal" (as opposed to "Wide" or "Cinema 1 or 2" looks best. At least the images doesn't look stretched out, the only thing is I have black bars on the sides of the screen.After researching online for answers, I found that my Mac Book Pro Retina (I'm on version 10.10 El Capitan) doesn't come equipped with options to set its resolution to 2560x1080, sooo I guess I'll just have black bars on the sides. I found this workaround though:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gY94z2vcVqMAnother thing is, the monitor has no built-in speakers. Upon hooking up the HDMI cable, there is no sound! The volume icon on both laptop and on the monitor is grayed out. I looked into this and it seems I've also gotta buy external speakers! Uh

Great monitor, really big, really wide. This is great for gaming, if you have a good graphics card, because again this is a huge display. I am giving this 4 stars because every once and a while there will be this random flash on the display, it only lasts for like under a secount, not a big deal, but it's something to consider when buying, but this shouldn't be a big deal. The random screen flash hasn't happened on my ps4 or Xbox one yet, just my PC, so if your buying this for a console you shouldn't see the screen flashes.Over all this is a great monitor, and I highly recommend it.

two weeks after receiving this, the monitor developed a black vertical line 2 inches from the right side. Beware when buying used!

Bought cheap used, but it is fantastic! I bought this mainly to watch movies on my HTPC while excercising on my elliptical trainer (monitor is about ~2ft from my face and 29" is almost too wide at that distance). For movies/videos, there are a few caveats - VLC didn't like the ultra wide screen, but MPC-HC does ok if you choose to have it zoom videos to the inside edge. Also to get Youtube and Netflix to play nice, you need to use Chrome with a free extension. Windows 10 netflix app or other browsers will not zoom the video content to fit the ultra wide screen. If you were originally planning to get two regular HD monitors, then get this instead - its absolutely better to have this than have 2 separate monitors.

Monitor is great, colors are nice, no noticeable ghosting.I am giving 1 stars because there is an issue where the screen has this funky flicker at the bottom every once and awhile while playing games. I am 10 days out of my 30 day return policy as well..*edit* I figured out the flicker at the bottom of the screen it is an issue with the " Response Time " setting in the menu, I had to turn it " off " for the flicker to go away. I'm not sure if we are allowed to pot youtube videos but this is what I was getting before I fixed it. [...]The flickering has stopped but only because I turned of the response time.

Took off a start because it has an auto-brightness settings that's on by default, and I had to Google how to turn it off, you have to push the FUNC button and turn Smart Energy Saving off. Dumb.

I like this monitor, good size, not too big, good colors. But after only 8 months I've got a string of dead pixels across my screen, I don't ever move this monitor so I'm not sure how an entire line of pixels die, but if this weren't the case this would be a 5 Star review
