Timeless Style and All-Day Comfort – A Classic Done Right!
Packaging & First Impressions:The shoes arrived in a sturdy Sperry-branded box, well-protected and ready to wear. The dark tan leather is rich in color with a subtle sheen that looks even better in person. The stitching is precise, and the combination of leather and mesh panels gives it both a premium and breathable feel.Fit & Comfort:True to size with a comfortable fit right out of the box. The dark tan color works well for both casual and slightly dressier summer looks. Perfect for vacations, weekend outings, or casual Fridays at work.Performance:The non-marking rubber sole has excellent traction, especially on wet surfaces—ideal for boat decks or rainy sidewalks. The mesh side panels add breathability, keeping feet cooler in warm weather.Pros:• Comfortable fit with minimal break-in• Durable leather with premium stitching• Breathable mesh panels• Great traction on wet and dry surfaces• Versatile design that matches many outfitsCons:• Leather requires occasional conditioning to maintain appearanceBottom Line:The Sperry Billfish Boat Shoe is a perfect blend of style, comfort, and durability. Great looking & durable design but may take some getting use to
I bought the Sperry Billfish 3 Eye Boat Shoe to replace the Original Boat Shoes that I’ve worn for years. Since the originals had a tendency to “overspill” the sole with time, due to my wide feet, the Billfish offered a unique design that holds its integrity. Even though the quality is good, the finish of the shoe facing the top side of the foot seems to be a bit cheap - a better quality leather finish would make it feel more consistent. Even though the shoe is a 10.5W, it feels quite snug - wish it was available in 2W or 3W width. This is stretching a bit with time to make it work. However, the toughest issue was what felt like an exaggerated arch support, which initially left me in pain after extended wearing. It’s getting less painful, but is taking well over a month to adjust. Using a slightly padded insole cushion has helped make it more comfy. Even though they were not perfect, right out of the box, I am making them work and feel that they will retain their shape better with time. In all, they look good, but could use some redesign/quality control intervention to address fit & initial comfort. That being said, I would give it an overall 8 out of 10. Hope this helps.

SUPER-COMFY, and more upscale with jeans-and-a-sport-coat than most running shoes
This has been my "go-to" comfort shoe for 40-plus years. They're super-durable. (What other shoe can you unexpectedly -- and periodically -- submerge in saltwater while boating, then, at day's end, merely rinse thoroughly in fresh water and dry. And there's no noticeable after-effect when you put them on a couple days later?) I do give mine a good, clear-wax polish about twice a year. (Do NOT use one of those quick-to-dry -- I'm guessing because they contain fast-drying alcohol -- shoe polishes. They are TERRIBLE for leather: whether shoes, attaches, easy chairs, AND these shoes.) In my 20s I loved the company's original, thin-sole boating shoes. Absolutely bullet-proof. But the sole in THESE (maybe it's even a gel-cell construction?), is REALLY comfortable for ageing feet. (In fact, the only thing I've seen match these shoes was a recent pair of "Skechers Hands-Free, Swift-Fit shoes I got at Walmart. SUPER-COMFY, and holding up very well after 5 months, switching daily between them and the boating shoes. (but I doubt the Sketchers could pass -- nor are they meant to -- the aforementioned, seawater-dunk ritual.

Great Boat Shoes
Great shoes, fit just as they should. Innersole now has some extra padding and support.

Outstanding. Great arch support is a huge bonus
These shoes are great. I've had Sperrys in the past, but I don't remember them being this comfortable. (Maybe they were, and I just forgot.) But these boat shoes offer great arch support, which I think is rare with boat shoes. I also like that they have 3 rows of eyelets. Quality seems first class. Fit is perfect. They look great. Couldn't be happier.

Quality isn't what it once was.
I own two pairs of the leather/canvas Tarpon 2-Eye Boat Shoe. Because they have 2-eyelets, they are true slip-ons. I stupidly thought that by not tying the laces too tight on a 3-eyelet show, or only using 2 eyelets instead of three, that these could be slip-ons. Not so. Doing so converts the shoe to slip-offs.Next, the the laces are too short if you use all three eyelets. Most people use what is known as the "Granny Knot" (a search would reveal that the name likely has its origins from being a common sack-tying knot in granaries). These knots frequently become undone. There isn't enough lace for a double knot.Perhaps the worst feature is that the lifespan of the shoe is the lifespan of the shoe laces. Why?The laces can't be replaced once one or both wear out. Laces eventually break if tied and untied with each wearing. Because the Tarpon is a slip-on, the laces need only be tied once.I decided to wear the 3-eye Billfish as a slip-on by only using 2 eyelets.Wish I could return it.
