It works super fast too!
UPDATE AFTER JUST OVER A MONTH:This is worth every single penny spent! Two days after I put this in my pool was completely algea free and has remained so. We have had very high temps and humidity (in the 100's) for the last month and my water has been clearer than when I filled it up when it was brand new. I did notice my pump was acting wonky after 5 days so I had to backwash which I was afraid would mess up the progress but it was fine (you're not supposed to backwash for 2 weeks after dropping it in). I did move it to the pump basket after that and no more issues. I have backwashed once since then. I put in one arm and hammer tablet and one chlorine tablet (clorox Xtra blue) once a week and my levels are always perfect. I haven't shocked my pool at all since adding this ball, the amount of money I'm saving on chemicals has made this ball very cost effective! I did notice this morning my pool isn't as clear as it has been and it's time for me to change out the ball. Probably didn't last as long because I backwashed after the first 5 days but I'm not complaining. I'll switch it out and enjoy another 5 weeks or so of a virtually maintenance free pool. Do not hesitate to order this!I didn't take a before picture but I swear this thing is a miracle worker! We put up a 17'x48" summerwaves pool last year and everything was great for 3 weeks. Then the yellow algea appeared. I triple shocked, vacuumed, brushed, over and over and over for weeks but the algea would never fully go away. The water would just be cloudy all the time. I kept my water balanced and just couldn't get it clear no matter what I tried. I finally drained it halfway and refilled, that helped for the last few months of summer but still, it never got really clear again. So this year I emptied the pool, gave it a good scrub and then started over. I had done my research and figured I knew what I did wrong. Things were great this season, opening the pool in May and for two months my water was perfect. Then we had the typical extreme heat and high humidity come in for a week, bam, yellow algea. I was frustrated. I gave it a good scrub and vacuum, and a quadruple shock. Two days later and zero difference. I saw this little thing, even though pricey, based on reviews I had to try it. It came in yesterday and I brushed the walls and floor, backwashed my sand filter and dropped this suckered in the bottom of the skimmer (I have a skimmer/pump that came with the pool and is not turned on, it's connected to the sand filter so putting it in the bottom of the skimmer is the same as putting it in the pump basket for reference). That was at 5pm yesterday. My pool had tons of yellow algea everywhere and the vacuum would only stir it up so I was hoping for a miracle. At 9am this morning I came outside and the pool is almost completely free of the yellow algea! I have a few small spots by the steps that I will see if the vaccum can get and if not I'll just brush it into the water to let the pump filter it out. This is so worth the money! I don't know how high my chlorine is because we have a tropical storm today and I really can't get out to mess with the pool but as of now, if it's too high and won't budge I am perfectly fine with draining some of the water to get rid of that, at least I know for sure algea won't be my problem in the future! If anything changes I will definitely update this review.

Keeps Pool Crystal Clear for Months
This pool algae remover works exactly as advertised. Just throw it in the skimmer basket or basket in the pump and you wont have to deal with any green water or algae buildup all summer. Super easy to use and gives peace of mind knowing the pool stays clean with minimal upkeep. Definitely a must-have for hassle-free pool maintenance. You still see results longer than the 6 months advertised.

Cleared up Water
Did anyone else get foam on pool with this? It’s been in the pool 2 days, it did clear up the water but now with the foam I’m wondering if I should take it out?

Solved my algae problem for now UPDATE to UPDATE to UPDATE
After 2 years of struggling year long with intractable algae, I drained my pool, pressure washed it and refilled so I could start fresh with Pool Rx. It has been 2-3 weeks of warm weather with solar heat now going and not a sign of algae. Plus, the chlorine stays in the pool forever (before it would disappear in half an hour). When I first installed this product, my pool turned as blue as the photo of the plastic mesh on the unit, but now it is the lovely pool color we all want. I've read you need to keep the chlorine levels below 1.0 to avoid plaster stains, so I'll do that and I've switched to a nonchlorine shock (monopersulfate) to try to keep CYA levels down. I am hoping this is the secret formula to avoid the horrible situation I've strugged with for so long. The cost of Pool Rx for six months is less than what I was spending on algae killer every single month!UPDATE: It has been almost 3 months since I installed PoolRx in my newly filled pool. A couple of weeks ago over-100 degree weather started and I started to get algae. Shocked the pool with monopersulfate, added Clorox and then made sure I had chorine tablets and now the algae is mostly gone, but the water is cloudy, there's light green on the pool walls, and I'm kind of wondering if I need to buy the refill.Along the way I discovered another problem: after about a month the silver ball inside the basket got completely clogged with palm tree seeds and it was nearly impossible to get apart. Once I did that and cleaned it, I wrapped it in a porous polyester fabric and that has helped considerably but it is still clogging.I have emailed this company using its "contact us" email address several times and they never reply, so we'll see what happens this time. I just called their 800# again and, like other times, it rang and rang with no answer, not even a machine. It was about 2:00 pm and I am in the same time zone as they are. Why bother putting contact information if nobody is going to reply? BAD customer relations!I find this really frustrating because I have been the most enthusiastic promoter of this product and just need someone to tell me how to tell if I need to recharge it already and whether I can put the unit in my skimmer basket instead of the pump strainer basket, which should help with the clogging. So, I have downgraded this company and its product from 5 stars to 3.UPDATE: It has been a week since I wrote this last update and got an email telling me, once again, to expect a reply to my question in 2 or 3 days. This company doesn't know how to do business with consumers, so it should only be selling through dealers.UPDATE: it has been 2 mod since they said they would get back to me with an answer, and I haven't heard a word. Meantime I used the refill I had bought for the fall shutdown and my pool is doing OK but I certainly can't spend $80 every 2 months, so I am going back to other copper-based algae control products. Maybe with metal inside the Pool Rx cartridge can still be used to generate ions or whatever it does. I am very disappointed in this product and its company! Downgraded to 1 star from 5 and then 3.
