Q: How does this adhere to the material? Does it just go over the fabric in a hoop? I may have bought the wrong thing.

You use this when embroidering on terry towels or any other fabric with a pile or nap. It keeps your stitches up on top of the pile so they don't just sink into the fabric and get lost. Layer your regular stabilizer, the towel on top of that, and this topping on top of your towel, and hoop them all together. After your embroidery is done, you can pull away most of this topping, and the rest will dissolve away in water.

Q: Can I use this to trace and stitch over with hand embroidery?

You cannot use a tracing wheel tool. This is very thin, like Saran wrap.

Q: What are the directions for use? Mine arrived with no instructions!

You will use this on towels where there is not a flat surface to embroider and embroidery designs that you want the stabilizer to disappear like in lace or other designs. Depending on what you are using it for will make a difference of how you use it . For towels I cut out a piece a little large than needed for the design and spray with temporary spray adhesive lightly around the edges ( or you can use tape too) to hold the film in place while I embroider the design. You can cut the film large enough to be hooped as well. When done with the design pull off the excess and use water to wash off the rest. Let the towel dry and you are finished. ( of course there is always Youtube) With free standing lace embroidery designs, I would google that or look at the embroidery design's instruction. That is included with Embroidery Library designs. Hope this helps a little.

It’s not thin like Sulky. I use it as a topper and it retains its solid sheet even when using a satin stitch.
