I work wonky hours and needed my bedroom to be night all of the time. Tried other curtains that claimed to be black out, but they let light in. These are true blackout curtains. The only light that comes in is through the sides, but that is based on the rod you get (I get the curved rods to minimize this). All in all, I can barely tell when it's day, I don't wake up either way.

These are the best blackout curtains I have purchased to date. They truly block out the light and heat where I need them too. They look great as well, unlike other super bulky curtains that tend to have thick linings. They were available in many sizes and colors and I have used them throughout my house. Highly recommend if you need to keep out the blazing hot sun or you are a light sensitive sleeper that needs a blackout of your neighbor's lights.

I hung these in my basement windows yesterday to add privacy and block the sun. They fit perfectly and work well. I ordered one set and used it on two 36" wide windows. I used an extension rod to hang them.

We live in a rental apt. w/floor to ceiling windows. Have to use a compression rod which doesn't damage walls and then thread the curtain through the rod pocket at top. Both rod pocket and bottom hem DO NOT have blackout backing. Light came through the whole length of the top pocket and the bottom hem. If you can mount a rod well above the window, and have the curtain extend well below it, this shouldn't be a problem. The actual panel IS BLACKOUT backed and appears to work well. Top and bottom should have blackout material - a design flaw. Disappointing for us, but our situation seems to be the case in newer buildings.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I followed the simple recommendations for sizing, e.g., 4" above the window and double the window width to size curtain panels. The two panels fit perfectly and look great right out of the packaging. I ordered white curtains with black panels on the outside and they do a great job of blocking out light in my bedroom. Plus, they look great!Prior to ordering from Amazon, I called a widely advertised blind/curtain store that offers free in-home consultations and quick turn around. I received a quote of $2,200 for a single bedroom black out curtain. I was nonplussed to say the least. I still can't believe it but it's true. I thanked the salesman told him no thanks and ordered my curtains from Amazon. Including the curtain rod, I spent $62.95. I'm very happy with the purchase and have received compliments from others.I strongly recommend these black out curtains.
