fantasticly useful and so cheap!
I was keen to find out what parts of my house were warm and cold (and needing insulation) and this little device has done the job brilliantly - it seems to be accurate and consistent (compared to my fridge and freezer thermometers and a boiling kettle) and at this price I find this an amazing bargain - it even comes with a battery! The laser is good but you have to realise that it senses the temperature of an area, not a point, so a lazer is probably unneccesary.Buy one and impress your friends - there are lots of uses for it!

GM300 Non-contact IR Laser Infrared Digital Thermometer
I've had the GM300 a few months now and it has proven to be a very useful tool - at a good price. It's well made and having tested it against a liquid thermometer I believe it to be accurate.I would certainly recommend given it's very reasonable purchase price.

Hours of fun with the cat!
Don't panic, i've not put my cat in the oven to see how hot i can get him! :D While testing out my "new toy" the laser spot got his attention on the various objects i was testing it on - jiggling it about a bit had the cat dancing nicely lol!Seems to be pretty accurate as well, the ultimate test will be my DIY powder coating of various things including my alloy wheels which is the main reason i bought it. Having used units costing several times what this cost in the past, i can definitely say this unit responds just as fast (if not faster) as those. This would be a very useful tool for lots of different trades - plumbers/heating engineers for finding problems in heating, electricians for fault finding bad joints, mechanics for finding engine and other problems, the list is probably very long!

Cheap and useful tool
Taking this out of the box and first trying it I was disappointed at its poor accuracy at around room temperatures but after actually reading the instructions and leaving it a couple of hours for the Thermometer to actually acclimatise to the ambient temperature (as it say in the instructions!) it became a lot more accurate.I actually bought it for use on my central heating boiler flow and returns but have actually found it very useful for identifying cold spots around the house due to poor insulation and cold bridging. For instance I was very pleased to see that the inside pane and frame of my double glazing was just about the same temperature as the inside wall of an insulated cavity wall when the outside temperature was only 3 degrees but astounded to discover that the very edge of the glass where it is sealed and joins the frame was a good 3 degrees C colder demonstrating how much thermal bridging there is at the edges of sealed units. It amazing how many uses you can find for a simple tool like this - I'm next going to use it when cooking with chocolate to ensure its at the correct temperature so you get that proper chocolate 'snap' - something very difficult to achieve without very accurate temperature control. Also just tested my oven temperature as it seems to cook a lot quicker than expected - appears temp settings on oven are slightly out.The important thing to remember if taking the thermometer from one place to another is to make sure it first acclimatises to the ambient temperature if you want accurate readings. Very important if coming from outside to inside (or vice versa) with a big temperature differential.Overall a good (and fun) tool......and very affordable too.

Works great on pizza ovens, very good build quality for the price.
I bought this temperature gun to use on a pizza oven so I could find the ideal temperature to stick my pizzas on the stone. I've found it to be a great help, and the reading seems very accurate to me as it was able to pick out a couple of cold spots on the stone which tallied up with more uncooked areas on my pizzas. The build quality is suprisingly sturdy for a product in this price range and it has a slightly rubberised finish which makes it easy to grip. I wouldn't expect people in professional fields to such as welding inspection to use a temp gun like this as its not quite up to the standard of those type of products, but they cost hundreds of pounds. This is a great product for home use and I've no problem recommending it.

Met my needs.
This a difficult review to write as I am unable to contest to the accuracy of what is basically a scientific instrument. On a couple of occasions the readings have seemed lower than expected (I use my skin temperature as a rough guide) I have also noticed a downward drift in readings when taking a succession of readings on a surface which should have a stable temperature. I would also recommend leaving the thermometer at ambient temperature for a while before taking readings as this reduces drift (I think this may have more to do with the battery than the thermometer) That said it has proved useful for the purpose I bought it for, which was carrying out comparative measurements to identify cold spots and to obtain a second set of readings after carrying out home insulation improvements. A well written instruction manual would have been helpful too.

Not Accurate
Just does not give an accurate reading, in fact it is way off, I could use it as a random number generator.A boiling kettle comes up at 18.6ºC the office fan heater at 19.2ºC but is actually too hot to touch.

Great for large objects, less useful for smaller things.
Incredible value for a neat piece of kit.In an unscientific test I found it gave sensible readings for a freezer (-16C), fridge (4C), my hand (33C) and boiling water (99C).It was less useful for finding the temperature of an object I was soldering. This was about an inch (25mm) across but when I brought the thermometer close it was hard to point the sensor exactly since it is slightly offset from the laser pointer. I practised with melting solder on a coin and had to learn to offset the aim to get a sensible reading. Hence 4 stars.
