Sturdy
Bought for my son doing an engineering degree and this leaves the ones you buy in the supermarket standing. It is Sturdy, accurate and I know it will last

My favourite compass.
After trying the 553 i found it too unstable for what i needed it for. This one is stable, seems solid and the arm joints dont bend inward slightly unexpectedly. Very pleased.

Good product, but...
I bought this item a few days ago. When I took it out of the box, the case was highly scratched with many deep marks and scratches. I bought it in brand-new condition, but I received the case as if it were used. Despite this inconvenience, the product is highly durable and sturdy. I have not gotten to use it a lot, but I think it is definitely worth the money compared to the standard 1-pound compasses we get for our maths class. I have my GCSES in 1 week, so I cannot waste my time sending them back.

Poor Construction - Too Much Plastic
STAEDTLER 552 01 Mars ComfortMany Amazon reviews have noted these are too loose, and I agree - specifically, in my case, the Universal Adapter - it can't be tightened fully and (literally) falls out. Staedtler said they aren't aware of any problem, although at least five reviewers suffered the same problem. Even ignoring the universal-adapter there is too much slack which makes a perfect circle difficult, this is probably due to the use of plastic over metal. Like many companies cost has overridden quality - shame.The picture shows the difference in attachment-point lengths [pin vs universal-adapter], no wonder the adapter (on the right) doesn't fit properly - this is Staedtler's idea of "no problem".Returned

Not model 1, but is the wobbly new plastic one. Useless
Fobbed off with new plastic levered one. Wobbly and no precision. I'm changing brand. Staedtler Mars Comfort used to be my favourite compass.

It's a bit wobbly
Ought to be better quality for the price. Has more moving parts than a cheap standard geometry set compass, yet it is more inaccurate. Disappointing.
