This is the one! Read on…
Most of these back stretching devices are solid molded items that are not adjustable, and the surfaces are just plain painful. I was pleasantly surprised with this very fairly priced item that exceeded my expectations for sure.First, let me say I’m a 61 yr old, 220 lb man who is not as flexible as I once was. I have a couple of bad discs in my lumbar area and spinal stenosis, which means the nerves often become compressed and extremely painful. I absolutely wanted a back stretcher which was adjustable and had a somewhat soft surface. I’m glad I got this one. I’ve been using it and I’d like to share some thoughts. Some reviews have stated it could be wider, for better comfort. It’s okay for me, but I can imagine it being too narrow for a person much larger and heavier. The construction seems very solid and the stretcher is easily adjustable to provide a low arc (I recommend you start here) to a higher arc which will stretch your spine much more. Depending on your age and how limber you are, it might be a good idea to have someone with you when you start using this device. Personally, I do not use it on the floor. I use it on my bed so I am able to get off it easier and get to my feet.I recommend starting at a low arc and sitting a couple of inches from the stretcher as you slowly lie back on it with your knees bent. You might have to adjust your position so the peak of the stretcher is above your lower back area. You’ll learn to recognize the “sweet spot” and feel your lower vertebrae separating and stretching out as it should. Try to relax to the point you can extend your legs flat and not feel much discomfort. It might take a few times for your spine to become more flexible. Remember, we are not used to bending our backs this way very often. For someone with a very damaged back, or fused vertebrae perhaps, this device may not be for you and might cause a lot of pain. So I’ll say again, start at a very low arc and go slowly.I am noticing less pain in my back as I continue to use this thing. I started at a couple of minutes and worked up to about 10 minutes a few times a day. Using this back stretcher in addition to walking and doing back strengthening exercises just might give you better quality of life! That’s my wish for you. Good luck.

Even with the spongy/cushy nubs, it's still a bit hard
Just received this yesterday. Other reviewers already mentioned that it's well made, and easy to use. I also followed the advice to start out on the flattest setting for 15 min., of which (surprisingly) my spouse could feel the effects of the stretch, and liked it, though he did mention it took a minute or two to adjust to the hard nubs pressing into him. The best/most comfortable usage was on the bed. When my husband tried using it on the floor (still on flattest setting), he needed a pillow under his head, because he said he was getting a bit of vertigo, when stretching backwards. He also mentioned it was a bit more difficult to get up off the floor, after using it. I bought two, with the intention of him using one at home on the bed, and the second, for the office. Probably needs a cushiony mat for him to lay upon, as well as a thick pillow under his head, for the office one. Btw, I received one of my stretchers sealed in plastic, brand new. The other was unwrapped in the box, a return from someone else...good condition, but I wasn't expecting that. It will probably take a few weeks to see a true difference, but I feel the investment is worth the chance of getting relief from his ankylosing spondylitis.

Awesome. But make sure it's right for you.
I have a multiple lower lumbar spine problems and this Stretcher is better than Advil. I want to stress before using this that you consult with PT or your Dr as this direction of flexion could actually make your condition/pain worse. But with my particular problems, this gives me a ton of relief.Another important thing to consider the degree of arch and the ability of a stretcher to handle smaller degrees without collapsing. Some of the cheaper stretchers at low degrees of arch will collapse under load (I'm 186lbs). This stretcher has a rotating rod that both allows you to dial in any degree of arch you wish, but also uses that steel rod to maintain it's shape. Very smart feature. The padding is stiff but I can use it against bare skin without discomfort. But if it bothers you just throw on a t-shirt of lay a towel over it during use.Totally recommend.

Not what I needed
Not expensive but not what I expected. Its was uncomfortable and too firm. Easy to use but didn't come up high enough for the angle needed for pain relief.

Love it
NOW I WILL WARN YOU DONT STAY ON IT TOO LONG THE FIRST TIME IT WILL MAKE YOUR BACK HURT A LITTLE BUT ONCE I GOT USE TO IT THIS IS A TOTAL GAME CHANGER. THE OTHER BRAND I HAD GOT THE PLASTIC BROKE SO NOW IT IS IN THE TRASH. THIS IS MADE OF GOOD MATERIAL. I KNOW PEOPLE HAVE SAID IT WAS NOT WIDE ENOUGH, WELL YOUR SPINE IS NOT THAT WIDE SO THIS WORKS PERFECT. IF YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT THEN I WOULD RECOMMEND TRYING ON THE BED TO HAVE A LITTLE MORE CUSHION. i ALSO USE IT IN MY OFFICE CHAIR. THIS IS A GREAT BUY

May Have Caused Pain
I tried using this both on the bed and on the floor. I found it to be more effective on the floor. It's definitely best to start out on the lowest setting. I could feel a stretching of my back. It particularly fits the lower back area. HOWEVER, the day after I first tried this, according to direction, I suffered greatly from a back strain. I can't say for certain that this device caused it but am certainly suspicious. While the cause of my back pain is an old injury and while subsequent back pain has occurred from time to time over the years, it has never lasted as long as this round has. I will not dare to use this product again.

Third times a charm.
My spine has lost its natural curve, and my chiropractor recommended back stretching exercises, so I decided to try a back stretching device. The first one was not adjustable and had too much arch for my back. The second one was adjustable but very difficult to adjust because it was made of hard, stiff plastic which had to be bent by hand which required hands stronger than mine. This one is very easy to adjust, and I am hopeful that it will relieve my low back pain. Beware, this position can cause dizziness, but it resolves in a few minutes.
