How do you turn it on and off

Top right hand corner there is a sliding switch. All the way to the left, it is off. Middle position tunes it to the fm band. All the way to the right tunes it to am band.

Does it take alot of room in a back pack? I travel some time thank u

I don't think so, it's not that big.

How is the FM reception at night.

I listen to 2 FM stations at night. One is 35 miles away and the other is about 150 miles away. Reception is great!

what are the external dimentions of radio?

8" Wide, 2" Deep, 4.75" tall without the handle. about 7" tall with the handle up. Great, basic radio. We have it for power outages and it worked great.
