Great value for low price
Handsome blade and design, solidly crafted, strong guard, fittings all very tight, no rattle. Good steel. Point is lively, handles more like small sword due to the shorter blade than you usually see on a rapier. Blade does not come sharpened.

PERFECT!! (Well, almost)
Exactly as described, exactly as I hoped it would be! The one issue is that the leather wrapping on the handle began to unravel almost immediately. But that doesn't bother me because I like to add lizard skin grip tape to my handles anyway, you get sooo much more control that way. If you're reading these reviews, but this sword! It's definitely worth it.

Read this before you buy
Let me start by saying I do love this sword. But buyers should be aware of what they are purchasing. This sword is neither “fish nor fowl.”Windlass Steelcrafts makes quality blades at a fair price and this is no exception. It is (very) loosely based on the Black Pirate Roberts sword from the movie “The Princess Bride”. But it is not a rapier. The hilt is more of a transitional cut and thrust style with no finger ring. The size of the hilt will make it impossible to hook your index finger. The blade is about 5-7 inches shorter than a rapier and is more of a wider smallsword blade. In many ways it’s the perfect “Old Hollywood” swashbuckling sword mixing a bunch of different historic swords into one.I have wide hands and the sword is comfortable for me but if yours are extremely wide or you want to use a bulky glove, the grip might be a little tight. Now for the positive. It is extremely light and well balanced. The blade is properly tempered with a good flex and a diamond cross section. Tip is sharp but blade is not. The hilt and grip are simple and minimal (blackened steel and a thin wrap leather) but workable. I use the sword more as a solo practice weapon for historic fencing and even for Tai Chi sword forms. If you check out my second photo you can compare it to an Olympic Epee and a HEMA fencing rapier. It’s a good buy but know what you’re buying!

Good for the price point
This raiper is quite excellent for $160. Sturdy, but my particular one was awfully aligned and the grip was able to turn a little bit. This was easy to fix because I have a vice but not everyone does.the handle leather is also too thin in a few spots, letting the wood show through. All that aside the build quality is good, exactly what to expect from windlass. Balance is good, the blade flexes a good amount. The scabbard it comes with is kinda piss poor, lowest part of this sword. All around a good sword for roleplay and display, maybe some backyard cutting.

Excellent Quality for a Great Price
I am very pleased with this purchase. I was impressed with the carbon steel blade. At 32.25 inches the blade is relatively short compared to 40+ inches length on many quality rapiers. But it is exactly what I wanted. I recently purchased the Cold Steel Small Sword from Amazon. This gentleman's dueling sword type was used in the duel scene in Dangerous Liasons between John Malkovich and Keanu Reeves. It has 1055 carbon steel just like the Black Marauder rapier. The blade length on the Cold Steel small sword is 31.25 inches. It has the hallowed out triangle blade in contrast to the flat blade of the Marauder. I like this length! I also purchased the Swept Hilt Spanish Fencing Rapier (Black) from Amazon for about $70. It has a 36.5 inch blade which is still short of the 40 " minimal standard for rapiers, but it is quite enough for me at this time. It has a 440 stainless steel blade instead of the higher quality carbon, but it has a good feel and I've seen it used effectively in choreographed fight scenes on Youtube. I would highly recommend all three of these Amazon products. The Black Marauder Rapier is light, quick, nimble and strong. I want to thank Amazon and Windlass Steelcrafts for this quality collabortion.

Perfect for a Dread Pirate Roberts costume
I love how well this is made. Styled perfectly for a Dread Pirate Roberts costume; only a black not silver finish. And the fit of the pommel to the blade left the grip and hilt perfectly attached. Sword rings beutifully when held gently and rapping a knuckle against the blade, sounds like a bell or tuning fork! Perfect fit!

Very good quality
Very nice, high quality item. Definitely a real sword. Interesting and fun thing to own and display in my office.

Great display piece.
It looks good on display or with a costume. It's made from decent steel so if heat treated properly it should make a decent stabbing weapon and an ok cutter. Might not be as nimble as ones made for actual battle though. The leather wrapped grip is a bit of a negative though. Instead of a piece of leather over wood, with a single seam, this appears to be a long leather strip/thong wrapped around the grip. It's not smooth, but I guess that does enhance the grip a bit, and it is tight. This isn't truly a rapier though, more of a spadroon (heavier blade intended for some cutting/slicing instead of just thrusts/stabbing), but other than a few geeks and historians who knows the difference.
