Is this standard light socket size. ?

Hi yes, this S14 led bulb is standard E26 edison medium screw cap. The cover is plastic, it is shatterproof design. Power is only 0.5watt, the brightness is equal to 5-7 watt incandescent bulbs. These colored led bulbs are very popular in yard decor, holiday lighting, Christmas lighting decor, etc.

How hot do these bulbs get? I want to put them in my small foyer, but worry about added heat.

Generally old incandescent bulb can get up to 120 degrees Celsius. But this bulb is led type, the surface temperature of the glass cover won't be over 60 degrees Celsius.

looking for led 25 watt equivialant standard size base for porch lightswill string lights work ? Ok for winter in Mich. ?

Depends on how many lights or if there is a trip hazard such as steps. If only one or two lights they may not illuminate a step sufficiently. We don't know about cold yet, should be ok.
