Q: Does it need a backing plate on the inside of transom?

It depends on how thick the Transom is. I always use a backing board and a large fender washer to spread the load.

Q: I have a 21” transom and an outboard with an 18” shaft length. Motor is about 3” to high. Can I lower the motor with this bracket?

Yes I used it for something similar. I have a 15hp 20" long-shaft motor with and have this mounted on the Panther. I spoke to Panther and they recommended the 35HP bracket which has 10" of travel. There is no problem pulling the motor up and out or locking it down while motoring. It helps that my motor has electric tilt, in that once the motor is set with the bracket I mainly use the tilt to motor or sail.

Q: Will this bracket drop 16” below the bottom of the base or 16” from the up position?

They have one that does, as I used one on a 21' Century 4000. It worked perfectly with a long leg Honda 8hp

Q: does this reach out 16" from the back of the boat? do you have 25-35 horse motor?

It drops 16 “ The motor I’m using is a SUZUKI 15 horse
