They will start to fray where you separate them. originally they were targeted to catering companies. Rather than throwing away lots of cotton napkins these could be washed and reused several times and, if they got stained or whatnot, they were less expensive to replace than cloth napkins.they do last a long time!

These things are awesome. We use them all the time. I am not what the material is, but if they say - I believe it as they feel very high-end, much nicer than a paper napkin. They are excellent cocktail napkins that can be used multiple times. However, we don't feel bad about tossing them after one use. They also make place settings out of the same material that we use frequently.
