Q: What size are each of the stones? I don't know what 2/4 inch means.

They are approximately 1/2 inch in size.

Q: was there a good assortment of sizes?

Yes there are two different sizes.

Q: What is the difference between the clear l250 and s900? Color clarity, size, number of pieces, what? I'm confused.

I think they might be model numbers, like SKUs. We purchased the multicolor stones for the tables at my daughter's wedding - they are a little less than the size of a marble or equal to a smaller marble like in Kerplunk game. They are true to color as well. Not sure what you're looking for but these were just right for my daughter.

Q: Can I use them inside electric fireplace to decorate?

No, they are plastic and would melt, I would look for glass
