Very Comprehensive
The Chinese (and all of Asia) have a long tradition of embroidery and this book looks at the many facets of Chinese embroidery. There are some beautiful photos and a good range projects at all levels. Ironically though, a lot of it looked like very familiar to "Western" embroidery techniques. It makes me realize how much cross pollination happens without our awareness of it. A good lesson in humility.

Great
The book is great quality, soft bound and colors look amazing. It's not an extensive "how to" embroider but it's great as a beginner's reference. There are some projects that she teaches that are simple, images are helpful.

Beautiful reading
As far as the projects go in the book, I think maybe only a few are approachable unless you are an expert. I would not consider this a how to bookOtherwise the history of Chinese embroidery is fascinating and I really enjoyed reading about the background of the different dynasties. Some people have reviewed saying that the author writes in confusing English but this really isn't the case--the writing is beautiful and high level, its been translated from Mandarin perhaps which is very formal and perhaps this is strange for readers.Overall I am glad I have it in my library.

It is a really beautiful book. Not exactly what I expected
It is a really beautiful book. Not exactly what I expected, but I enjoyed reading it. I thought it would tell me how they did the embroidery that looked the same on both sides.

Great detailed information and pictures
Well written with many close up pictures of various stitches and more pictures showing them in context of the completed example. The explanation of the history of embroidery in China over time and within region is helpful. One of few sources with some information on double sided embroidery, which looks completed on each side even when the sides have different colors and subjects.

Great addition to an Embroidery Library
I know..I decided I am addicted to embroidery books and this one is just perfect to add to my knowledge of the subject.I go over and over my books so I can learn more about the techniques...this book has quite a bit of background history of Chinese embroidery but I found it fascinating the way the art has progressed through the centuries... Projects are nice but some just are not my taste while others are beautiful. I am finding I can intertwine all the learning from differentauthors and enhance my own skills to suit me...
