Braun immersion blender
I bought this as a gift for my granddaughter. I got a full report from her and she loves it. This is the same immersion blender that I have and I love mine.

Good for hot cocoa
Bought this during a deal, probably would not pay full listed price but I am pleased with this stick blender so far.I have not tried to blend anything difficult, just hot chocolate. After switching to a non-powdered chocolate, I would always have a large amount of it that would not mix in to the hot milk no matter how much I stirred. I did not have a stick blender before and trying to blend hot milk in my usual blender seemed like overkill. Obviously getting a stick blender for this very important task is necessary, decided on this one, and have been pleased with it. I cannot turn on the actual mix setting without the power of the blender causing some of the cocoa to splurt out of my oversized mug but doing pulses with the "Turbo" setting works perfectly. The motor seems sturdy, as does the connection part which seems like the most likely failure point for these things. I just have the standard blender attachment, maybe my chocolate would get more frothy with the whisk but I have been happy with just having it mix completely. Also, I could not find anywhere on the box or instruction where the county of manufacture is. Alot of "Designed in Germany" or whatever but nothing about where it was actually made, I consider this dishonest.

Lives Up To The Hype
Like a lot of people, I bought this because the NYT Wirecutter recommended it as the best immersion blender out there.I like that it has variable speeds, and quick access to full power with a separate button so you don't need to try to turn the speed dial while it is running. It is a very ergonomic design, easy to hold and control, and it seems to have plenty of power.I decided that ultimately, I like that the little hood that covers the blade doesn't have any gaps or holes in it. To be clear, that design choice is somewhat of a mixed bag. Some other immersion blenders have gaps or perforations in the hood to help circulate the material better, but at greater risk of splashing. The main downside of this closed hood design is when you want to whip air into eggs or whatever, it requires pulling the head almost entirely out of what you are mixing, repeatedly. Not a big deal, and I think that, overall, it is more important to keep stuff from splashing vs. the incremental benefits of slots in the hood, but it is a noticeable change from how my last hand blender worked.Cleaning it is easy. I hand wash the beater but the instructions say you can theoretically throw it in the dishwasher.I bought the basic one without all the attachments. I also bought a separate, metal milkshake cup, which I use with this constantly for everything, not just milkshakes. They give you a thin, plastic mixing cup, but I learned the hard way that even very solid glassware is really not up for being used with a hand blender. You can get away with it for a while, but it puts absurd stress on the glass. So I don't expect the thin plastic cup to fare much better. Do yourself a favor and get a metal milkshake cup to use with this if you don't already have one, they are cheap, oversized, indestructible and make using a hand blender so much easier.
