Q: Has anyone hooked this to a standard round 5-gallon bucket?

That is totally impossible. There's no way for those clamps to attach to something that isn't straight for at least 12" to 14". Plus the weight of the wringer itself is so substantial that it would tip a five-gallon bucket over instantly even if you could miraculously attach it. We have it clamped to a fairly large galvanized tub, and even that tips over from the weight of the wringer on one side. We had to counterweight it by putting a cinder block inside the galvanized tub. So a 5-gallon bucket will NEVER work.

Q: I'm interested in using this for something other than just wringing laundry. Could someone please tell what the approximate spring tension is

Although I have no way of measuring the spring tension, someone may be able to take this apart and measure the spring dimensions and calculate it's tolerances. The tension is adjustable with the knob at the top of the unit. To be of anymore help, we would need to know what you plan on using this for. Perhaps your question could be better answered by the manufacturer.

Q: Has anyone used this on black and decker workmate?

I have not used it on a workmate but it works fine on a sawhorse.
