Factory Re-manufactured VIP 722K Dual Tuner HD DVR Dish Network

Before the HOPPER came around (along with its annoying commercials on TV), the ViP722K was a top of the line receiver. It has all the bells and whistles one could want from a classic DVR. It supports two TVs, comes with two remotes (one of which is UHF, so you can control the receiver from a different room where TV2 is located). There is an optional add-on Over The Air (OTA) module for adding your local broadcast channels onto it. The OTA module is often overlooked for the functionality it adds. While you probably already receive your locals over the satellite feed, if you are watching a local channel it counts as one of your two simultaneous feeds you can be using with this receiver. If you have the OTA module, you can not only have two simultaneous feeds over the satellite signal, but also 2 simultaneous over-the-air feeds. That means you can be recording up to 4 things at once (2 shows via satellite, 2 shows via OTA).

Twin tuner dvr, can work two separate rooms simultaneously or can be used in one room for features such as pip. Has up to 1080p resolution. Ir/uhf remote compatibility. Has a very large internal recording/storage capacity. Only flaw is if used as a two room receiver the second room is in standard definition only. However, there is no fee for second room viewing. Good solid reliable dvr.

Ordered this product to replace a previously owned VIP 722K. Unfortunately, dish network no longer has these units available so I had to order a refurbished unit off Amazon. When trying to set the unit up, it would not activate forcing me to call dish net work for assistance. After spending an hour with them on the phone, they could not get it to activate either. They suspect it is still attached to someone's account. The seller should make sure, the unit can be activated and is not attached to someone else's account prior to selling. I'm very frustrated and not happy with the seller at all. I am returning the unit for a refund.

I bought the DISH model 722k DVR receiver last fall. It has worked nearly perfectly ever since.The DVR itself seems to work fine, the only complaint I have about it is the OTA Tuner that I had purchased for it (the OTA Tuner is NOT supplied with the Dish 722 model) from Amazon, is an inferior product compared with the OTA Tuner that came with my Dish model 622 DVR. The OTA Tuner takes longer to tune in the local digital channels (it does find them all during setup) and has trouble keeping a lock on the channel as the signal comes and goes. When the local channel does come in, it shows a signal strengh in the 80's and 90's depending on which channel. I am not sure whether this is due to the OTA Tuner or the 722k DVR. My Sony TV and 622 DVR have no problems with any of these local channels, it is only the 722k DVR with the OTA Tuner option that has problems. For me, it is not a deal breaker though since I have the 622 DVR that I can use for the consistent OTA channel recording/viewing.In any case, my review of the Dish 722k DVR is very positive and if you have a need for the OTA Tuner, please take this additional into consideration.NOTE: For the Dish 722k DVR, the OTA Tuner model to use, as I recall, is the OTA2 Tuner for a Dish DVR. I bought my through Amazon a while back, but I think they are still available for purchase.

Being on a Dish Network package that does not include a DVR, I provide my own: Prior to purchasing the VIP 722K, had been using the older model Dish 625 DVR.My new Panasonic TV benefits from being connected to a source that has a HDMI output, which the VIP 722K has.The VIP 722K has only been connected for a few days, but what a difference in picture quality, sound and feature benefits such as automatic aspect ratio adjustment.Have not suffered some of the complaints indicated in older reviews. After connecting the DVR to your system and obtaining the satellite signal, the software will update and would assume that most glitches have been eliminated. When calling Dish to activate the receiver the representative mentioned the VIP 722K was one of Dish's most reliable receivers.The VIP 722K has been recently offered for sale in the $200 range by various vendors. My unit was listed as new and purchased from "reiderelectronics".Installation of the unit is straight forward, especially if you are upgrading from an older similarly configured model.After using this DVR for only a few days feel it was well worth the price to upgrade.

It worked well for several weeks, but now freezes for several minutes if I try to select safe or deleted programs. I am glad that I purchased a 3-year extended warranty, since the return time has expired.

The VIP722k worked well for 2 months. Then it started not fast forwarding correctly. It would chug along and then would go way too quickly. Now we are to the point of no recording, no backing up and no forwarding. It is 2 months past being able to return so we’ll have to replace and hope for the best.
