Usually grown as a house plant as people do not realise how cold hardy this tropical gem really is. We have been growing this for several years as ground cover and trailing over walls and all it has required for overwintering is a thick mulch of bark chippings after the first frost has cut back the foliage. Low growing and spreading/ branching with narrow, lance shaped purple leaves up to 35cm long. Small, three petalled pinkish/ purple flowers are produced during the summer. Protect from slugs early in the season as new growth emerges. Any moist but well drained soil in full sun. Looks good in hanging baskets mixed with other dark or golden foliage plants. Plenty of food and water once full growth has resumed. You will receive one young plant in a 9cm pot.
