My son received this at age 8, but absolutely lives it. It is one of the few Legos that has stayed as built and not torn apart.

Not sure how to answer this. My grandson age 7 1/2 loves it and a second grandson age 10 has requested it for Christmas. Both boys use their legos on a continual basis . So I know they love to play with LEGOs but as for whether one particular set is more playful than another, I am not sure.
