Hello,Yes, you can directly connect this pump to a 12v solar panel. With a 24v solar pannel we recommend a voltage controller because high voltage spikes may cause damage to the pump. Regards

Q: Any 12 volt dc shallow well submersible pump that run off of a 45 watt solar panel, with average reviews anad fit 3 or 4" pvc pipe?

It will fit a 3” PVC Pipe, but the top cap of the pump has to be trimmed down, it exceeds the inside diameter of the 3” pipe. I have used this pump and have had success, but I grind the extruding edge of the top of the pumps off in my grinder, so they fit down the 3” PVC pipe.

Q: Does pump have something like a float switch that can intermittently control operation?

The pump is just that. Its a dc motor the runs or not. You should have a control box that sends power to the pump itself. If you have a holding tank there is a float switch in the tank that tells the control box to shut the pump off when its full so the pump does not continue to run and overflow the tank. If you are having intermittent run of you pump check the float switch first for its open and closed operation.
