... for putting in some 2 inch soffit vents for better ventilation on my roof
Bought this for putting in some 2 inch soffit vents for better ventilation on my roof. I imagined the screw point would assist with pulling the bit through the 2x4 since I would be drilling most of these from a ladder. Unfortunately my 3/8 drill was not up to the task and the screw head was to aggressive. I ended up pre drilling the center holes which worked out great but added another step. With a the center predrilled my drill was able to run this bit through the wood no problem and the screw point just guided it in. Holes were straight and clean the vent caps fit snuggly and it worked out great. Came with an extra screw tip and allen wrench for changing it. I may try changing the screw tip out for a drill bit like others have suggested. Nice to have that option with this bit.

For plumbing 1 1/2 drains, this is a tight fit.
Very sharp and fast. It is not as bulky as some other designs, but has good power. You need a real 1/2 inch, low speed, 2-handed drill for this, which generally means an expensive tool with a cord. Most DIYers would not own such a thing, just FYI. This size works ok for 1 1/2" drain pipe if you are needing a nearly perfect hole. Most people use a 2 1/8 inch bit for that to have some extra room. They also sell a 2 1/4" bit that is nicely oversized for that size pipe.If you were a perfectionist, use this 2 inch bit for verticals and the larger ones for horizontal drains.

Nice Drill Bit
I received a strange request from my future daughter in law. For the wedding she wanted small pieces of wood, 2.5 inches to 4 inches in dia as centerpieces on the tables. In these she wanted to place a votive candle. That meant I needed to bore a two inch hole in each piece approximately 2.5 inches deep. I found some Maple limbs and cut them up in six inch sections. Trying to bore a hole in this hard rock maple was like drilling through a piece of stone. A regular forstner bit was not getting the job done. I searched the internet and found this bit. It still was a chore but this bit chewed through those pieces. The serrated edge and tri-blade interior was the best combination for boring through this hardwood. This bit also has a feature that I love and have not seen on any other bit of its type. The self feed bit center is removable. This was great because at first the bit was pulling into the wood and binding the bit into the wood. I was able to remove the the center self feed and replace it with a standard drill bit. PERFECT! BRILLIANT!

Drills a really smooth Hole
Using this to drill a 2" hole through old railroad ties which is tough drilling since the ties have a lot of stone embedded in them. Took 2 bits but I drilled a total of 53 holes under harsh conditions the bit did a good job!

Great concept, seizes up too often
I really wanted to love this bit and in soft wood it might be perfect. I was only drilling through 2x4's to run some conduit and I was using a hardly-wimpy 7.5 amp drill but every time the center screw pulled the face against the stud it seized up and I had to reverse out. I tried the trick mentioned in an earlier review of replacing the screw with a regular drill bit but with round-shank drill bits they just spun in the middle. If I'd had a hex-shank rotary drill bit for the center that the set screw could have held only then I might have been in business, but without that this bit was not useful. The only progress I made with it was removing the center and just using it like a forstner but, but this left a "post" in the center of my hole which I had to knock out every 1/4 inch or so.Instead of including a second screw bit they should include a basic rotary with a flat side for the set screw and let you choose which one you need. The bit is too worn down to return of course, so it's just money wasted.

A great timber framing asset
I bought this to be used as an essential part of my tool kit while making a timber frame cabin. I needed something to hog out most of the material for my mortises without spending a fortune on the chain-saw mortisers. In combination with a 1/2" 550lb torque, low-rpm drill made by Bosch, this bit has exceeded my expectations. I use it primarily with oak and poplar timbers. Some of the timbers are fairly green, and some have sat for a while and are a bit dry. Regardless as to the condition of the wood, this thing works wonders. The only complaint I have is when I happen to find a knot in the center of the timber. It'll jamp your wrist pretty hard, so be prepared for that.I'm almost done with my 16' x 20' timber frame that has required about 150 mortises, all of which require about 2-3 holes per mortise. And the bit is still super sharp and cuts like a dream. You won't be disappointed with this thing.

Super Sharp
I used my DeWalt 18v driver and it took about 10 minutes to drill through the 3”x5” timbers. This 2” bit makes a perfect hole for the 1.5” PVC pipe. If I have a real powered driver, I think will go through in 30 seconds. The bit is super sharp and cuts the wood very clean.

Serious drilling capability
With the 3 cutters this is a fast cutter. You will however need a serious 1/2” drill to power it without stalling. Using it to drill 8” oak logs.

cuts cleanly
I bought this drill bit for a variety of projects. So far, I have used it for one and it did exactly what I expected and cut a nice clean hole through a 2x4 with a minimum of fuss.

Quality bit!
Excellent results from this bit drilling 6x6 beams. Bit really bites in and provides a nice clean cut. Stalls out my 18v millwaukee hammer drill so best used on a corded drill. Comes with 2 self feed tips.

Cuts great but hang on tight lol
Awesome bit for deep holes when used with extension. This is an aggressive bit so go a bit slower and use a drill with the second handle so you don't twist your wrist.
