The Mora Companion Heavy Duty is a powerful tool for bushcrafters, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts. Suitable for batoning, the Companion Heavy Duty features a thick, 1/8-inch (3.2mm) carbon steel blade with a slightly blunter 27 Degree edge angle for high load capacity and maximum sharpness resistance. The Companion HD has an extra large ergonomic handle with a soft high-friction grip. The classic scandi grind combined with high quality carbon steel makes the knife easy to resharpen. Mora knives made from high carbon steel achieve high hardness, sharpen easily and are exceptionally tough. High carbon steels are preferred in applications that demand durability and frequent regrinding. The material is harder than stainless steel, allowing it to hold a sharper and more durably acute edge. Mora Knives are made from high-quality carbon steel. The carbon knife steels are characterized by ultra-fine carbides that result in superb forging and hardening properties. The absence of large carbide deposits promotes excellent edge sharpness for optimum cutting performance. Morakniv has been manufacturing the highest-quality knives in Mora, Sweden since 1891. Professionals worldwide trust the quality materials and fine craftsmanship of Mora Knives. Mora knives feature ergonomically-designed handles and employ premium-quality knife steel that is optimally adapted to the task for which the knife is intended.

Add a forced patina to protect the blade and it looks great!
I won't spend any time actually reviewing the knife. It's a great knife as the reviews show. I'm going to give my advice on forcing a patina on the blade to protect it from rust in the field. There's many ways to force a patina but I like the solid color, charcoal gray to black. The first thing you want to do is clean the blade thoroughly with alcohol, I used plain rubbing alcohol. Next bring Apple cider vinegar to a boil then fill a glass with it. Place the knife into the glass being sure the blade is fully submerged. You'll immediately see the chemical reaction as bubbles will come off of the knife blade. I left it in for about 45 minutes before rinsing it under cold water then cleaning it in alcohol again. Boil up a second batch and repeat as many times as you'd like until you get the desired results. It took me two times to reach what is seen in my pictures. Afterwards dry it thoroughly and apply a thin layer of oil, preferably mineral oil as its food grade acceptable. Using Apple cider vinegar and mineral oil keeps the knife food grade and great for food prep! The end results look professional and the oil almost soaks in to the finish!

Amazing scary sharp knife
This knife has over 240 five star reviews on amazon, is recommended for its quality and value by survival experts and is the most affordable quality knife period. Very few knives in the world enjoy such broad support and they are so reasonably priced everyone should own a Mora. The companion HD like the robust HQ and the bushcraft models have a thicker blade than standard mora knives and that thickness is constant throughout the entire spine up to the tip. This thickness combined with a wider angle to the blade makes the companion HD suitable to baton wood and other hardcore knife work. My thinner bladed Mora #1 does fine work like thin slicing onions better than the thick bladed companion HD but I prefer a blade that flexes less and the added durability. 1/8 inch is generally considered to be the minimum thickness for a good quality fixed blade knife. The sharpness of the blade is what impresses me most about mora knives. It takes a sharper edge than any other knife I own even other carbon steel blades. After stropping this blade it can cut space and time, it's mind bendingly sharp, sharper than a strait razor. Carbon steel bladeslike this one can easily be used to create sparks for firestarting. I believe that is why this knife does not have a Sharp 90° edge on the spine of the blade. Although it does have a 90° edge on the spine at the very tip that can strike a fero rod. This knife is carbon steel and as such will stain as soon as you start using it. I used it for one weekend camping for all of my knife needs, when I got home it was pretty rusty(SEE CUSTOMER IMAGES) even though I had oiled it before leaving home. To help prevent corrosion many people online have put a forced patina on this and other mora carbon bkade knives. I had great success using vinegar to force a patina(SEE CUSTOMER IMAGES) and find it's more rust resistant, retains oil on the blade better and looks cooler! If you want a pretty shiny blade get a stainless steel mora not this knife. This knife is intended by Mora for any task including heavy tasks like batoning and job site cutting. In Sweden this style knife is used in place of utility knives and box cutters in the USA. I use this knife as a light backcountry camping knife that pulls heavy duty as the main use knife for me and my wife.Overall it's a micron sharp work/beater/bushcraft knife for pros in the know.

What a blade! (VIDEO and FULL review)
**** To see more photos of the product follow my account on Instagram at @YesiReviews****Here is my assessment. I hope it helps, Please let me know if you have any questions. I am very stinggy with five (5) stars and a product has to BLOW MY MIND to earn it and this one did. Here's whyPROS✅ Recognized by bushcraft experts and survivalists for its quality, craftsmanship, durability and affordability.✅ Exceptionally sharp out of the box. As demonstrated in my video, the blade came incredibly sharp with no sharpening needed and slices like a work of art.✅ Strong, robust and sturdy handle provides tack grip for secure handling.✅ Ergonomically correct. Fits in the contour of your hand (though this may be circumstantial depending on the person)✅ Carbon steel blade with a scandi grind which is great for regrinding. This provides added strength to your blade and its longevity.✅ Weight is ideal! For the thickness of the blade, the weight is proportionally distributed.✅ Though some have griped about the plastic sheath, I absolutely think its a winner.✅ Tight and snug fit into the sheath with zero wiggle room or movement.CONS❌ Still looking. Come back.Overall assessment: This knife has been trusted my go-to knife for camping if you are on the market for quality and budget friendly knife, this Mora Heavy Duty can't be beat. I will most certainly continue to provide updates to this review over time as I continue to use the product to inform you all if anything changes. Please ask any questions you may have. I would be pleased to help. If this helped you, let me know by selecting "Yes". 😉(note: I purchased from Mora however felt compelled to express my appreciation for this knife so othes could benefit)

I don’t recommend for fishing
Literally rusted in one day out fishing on the pier. I’d get the stainless steel version instead.

Haven't seen a better knife for the money.
These are really an amazing value for the price. Good quality, carbon steel, blade with nice thick spine cross section. Good point.

Great knife
This is the first Morakniv I've bought. It's a very nice knife. The blade, made of carbon steel, does tend to rust so I'm going to force a mustard patina on it which should...

Excellent knife at a great price
This is an excellent knife at an unbelievably good price. It is sturdy, takes a very good edge easily using a diamond sharpener, and is a convenient size.

Mora...come on man
I was SO excited to get this beast. I love my other mora. BUT, this thing came so dull, everything I touched it with laughed at it. Now I have to put a real edge on it.

Sharp, solid and durable
The blade on this Morakniv knife is much thicker than a regular Mora. It still arrives with a super sharp edge that you come to expect with Mora knives.

Not Sharp
Not sure what all the hype is about. I have sharper spoons in my kitchen.
