and I can't really comment on transfer speeds - because that's pretty much irrelevant to me - nor heat dissipation under ...
This enclosure is working well for me so far. I'm using it as a replacement for a Fantom Green Drive enclosure that recently died on me (fortunately, the drive itself was still ok) and I have it attached to my router, so it's not seeing a lot of use, and I can't really comment on transfer speeds - because that's pretty much irrelevant to me - nor heat dissipation under heavy load. What I can say is that the enclosure is well built, and the drive was easy to install with just 4 screws to hold it, and another 2 screws for the back plate. The inside drive tray is all metal. The transfer speed indicator is a useless gimmick as far as I am concerned, but I bought the enclosure despite of it anyway, and not because of it.

2 TB Limit? Maybe?
I LOVE Rosewill products. Solid all the way. This is my second Rosewill External Enclosure, but this one is USB 3.0. I got it so it is quick when I back up my system. This item, however, seems to have a 2 TB limit or something. The device will not provide the partition that my system backup is on. I tried everything, but to no avail. So I switched the drives in the 2 enclosures. The older enclosure (Rosewill USB 2.0) it works perfectly with the 3 TB drive. The other drive is a 2 TB Drive and it is working fine in the new enclosure. I really hate to write a negative review for a company that I have never had a problem with. So now I am still at my USB 2.0 speed. The difference is from 32MB/sec (USB 2.0) to around 125 MB/sec (USB 3.0). Now I will have to swap data and backup on the 2 TB drive. Sorry Rosewill. I did not want to give a bad rating.

Worth The Money
This is a great looking and well built hard drive enclosure. It isn't for heavy duty hard drive use where a fan would be required but for a backup device, it works perfectly. It accepted a spare 1 TB Seagate drive and with a quick format it was in service. Drive installation is simple. This is also a great enclosure and a great price that I bought a second for a spare hard drive.

Excellent HD Case
Excellent external HD case. Easy to assemble and works flawlessly. I've always done well with the various Rosewill cases I've bought. I use quite a few in my business, and I don't even look at other brands.

Rosewill Full Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure
Nice display and it actually works. So far this box has been stable, not intermittent disconnect and it doesn't go to sleep every 2 minutes. I bought this to replace my Vantec box that worked fie for a couple years, but as of late, it would drop off the usb 3 bus and had to be turned on and off so the computer could pick it back up. Its hard to watch movies when your drive disappears at random. I am happy with this new rosewill box. It works great and so far its stable. I don't know if the U3 turbo works, haven't really noticed or payed attention, but the display is nice. (Yes, I am entertained by fancy displays weather they serve a purpose or not.) I would say do your homework first, look around. This box may work for you, may not. It does support 3 terabyte drives/sata 3, so this I can tell you for certain. This box is inexpensive, so if you have to return it or something else happens and warranty is gone, atleast your not out a large sume of money. Happy shopping!

Rosewill Full Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure 3.5" SATAIII USB 3.0 RX356-U-LED
This drive enclosure is pretty sweet. I'll never buy another pre-made external drive again. It looks good enough to sit next to my tower right out in the open. There's no need for a cooling fan, as the aluminum is hefty enough to cool the drive. I just plugged into my Windows 7 machine, and PnP took over, and it recognized it right off the bat. And, it's downwards compatible to USB 1 I suspect, but I know for a fact that it's downwards compatible to USB 2.Bear in mind, that the most Windows XP can recognize is 2 TB, but if you're running an OS above XP, I believe it to recognize anything up to 3-4 TB. Plus, the display will not automatically go horizontal if you choose to lay it on its side.

Works excellently until it doesn't
It finally died after 8.5 years. No idea why it died; there is no fan so it could be heat, but none of the electronic components were visibly broken. It was attached to a 24/7/365 headless mini-itx file server so it was stressed continually. It survived 2 different hard drives. It's a home server but we definitely tested it in practice. After all of that, no matter what hard drive was installed (including known good), the OS could not pick it up. Unfortunately it is no longer sold. We would buy it again. We replaced it with a no-fan mesh enclosure so we'll see if that beats this one, or perhaps that is the average lifetime under these conditions. The bandwidth display was nice considering the server was headless. It let us know it was functioning, and it also let us know it wasn't when it was stuck at 0.0. Wince it was locked in a cabinet we couldn't see it otherwise. If you used it as a portable or external drive then we suppose it was more useful. The drive is secured on a plate with 4 screws, then the plate is inserted into the enclosure which is secured with two different screws. It came with a vertical stand which allows it to be positioned vertically to save a lot of space. Our new enclosure did not come with one and has inherited it. So we are still getting value from it. It took 4 GB drives easily and the current drive was re-homed in the new one.It could have been designed as tool-less but for the quality and money it was fine at the time. It's been surpassed by some current offerings so we're okay with it no longer being manufactured. Our rating is based on when it was current but like we said, we'd buy it again knowing its lifespan. We have a positive outlook on Rosewill; they offer efficiently-designed products at a particular pricepoint.
