Q: What is the depth needed to install this directly through an outside wall?

I installed mine through a single wall (1" thick wood). It has a metal diverter that changes the outflow from outward to downward and the diverter also has a flap in it to keep outside air from coming in, but since the "outside" for me was protected from weather, and I wanted outside air to come in even when the fan was not in use, I didnʻt use the diverter. I just mounted the fan in the wall (after making an 8 inch or so hole in the wall). To keep bugs, etc outside I built a square frame around the outside hole with 2x4 wood, and made a small window screen covering for it. Worked out well. The fan is so quiet I have to look at it to see if its on.

Q: can this be mounted to a window to function as a window fan in my kitchen?

I would have to say 'no' unless you did some serious modification of the window as the depth of the fan would extend outside the window.

Q: Where is the On-Off switch?

There is no on-off switch. It directly wires to a 110 electrical source. I ran mine thru a standard room light switch to the fan

Q: Worried about winter cold air coming in the fan because the hole is so big for a bathroom installation on a north wall. Need winter feedback please!

Hi, we live in winter cold climate and installed this fan last summer. It has a flap that stays shut until you turn it on and we had no heat loss issues at 30 below last winter. We are very pleased with it. Efficient and super quiet, so worth the - what we first thought - high price. We've come to realize that this was a great find from the research we did. Hope this helps.Oh, and we also installed it in the bathroom, small, easy to fog up from the steam shower, and this fan takes care of that in minutes.
