It seems like there are two civets--one is "animally", smells like the civet cat. The other is perfumey, and not at all animally. Which one is this?

It is somewhat perfumey, low animal. What you need to understand is that true civet oil in from the animal and is rare to find these days for a decent price. Most civet oils are synthetic in nature these days. Often times the true oil is diluted as well. I would suggest trying wiccan sources if you are after true animal oil.

This is DISGUSTING! It smells straight up like someone hasn't cleaned their ass EVER! STRONG SMELL OF FECES. If you like to smell like someone who needs a bath and has pooped their pants, you will love this nasty stuff

While this oil contains the same pleasant overtones of ambergris, bergamot and sandalwood as the Civet Oil sold by Jovan or Houbigant in the 1970s, a reasonable facsimile of those two fragrances it ain't. I'll keep looking.
