Q: Can this scan 11x17 ? Anyone recommend a scanner that can ?

This type of scanner scan 11x17 CANON imageFORMULA DR-M140 Sheetfed Scanner DR-M140

Q: It feeds 9.5" width, but can it actually scan 9.5" width or is it limited to the standard 8.5" scan width? I have 9x12 docs with data beyond 8.5".

The DocuMate 6440 scans document sizes 9.5" x 118" So yes it will scan the 9.5" width.

Q: Is this scanner good for hand written letters and daily use? one post states you could not read anything scanned in. Does everyone have this problem?

Scanning hand-written letters should not be an issue. However, please be aware that OCR can not be completed on handwriting, so you till not be able to turn the hand-written letters into searchable PDFs.
