An amazing movie that I never heard of until I discovered it on Prime. NO SPOILERS.
There's almost nothing I love more than a good movie. Prior to discovering it on Prime, I had never heard of this film. Being a WWII and spy thriller fanatic, I decided to give this movie a chance. The movie starts slow as it builds the foundation of the story. Once the action begins, Allied takes you along for an epic love story wrapped around a WWII spy thriller that will keep you glued to your seat. I am not a sappy, emotional person. When this movie ended, I had to fight back tears. In addition to an absolutely amazing story, Robert Zemeckis crafted a visually stunning masterpiece. There are several scenes in this movie that will leave you speechless (including one the best love scenes of all time, but not for the reasons you would suspect). People that are expecting a shoot 'em up, non-stop action first, movie with over-the-top SFX (in the vein of Fast and Furious, etc), may not love this film (although it contains all of the aforementioned). Another reviewer suggested that prospective watchers of this movie ignore the negative reviews. I whole heartedly agree. Give this film a chance. As mentioned above, Zemeckis nailed this and deserved recognition for it. One of his best movies, if not his best. Marion Cotillard delivered an award worthy performance. There are several scenes that she single-handedly carried. In particular, the scene in front of the Jewlery store near the end. If there was a downside to this film, it was that Pitt's performance was slightly wooden and stiff. By the end, he delivered enough to adequately compliment Cotillard. One final thought...do yourself a favor and watch this in UHD. This film deserves it.

Beautiful film
By no means am I a professional movie critic, but I know from a layman's point of view if a film is good or not. And this film is good. Other's who didn't like it say that Brad Pitt's performance was bland; I totally disagree. I saw it as a directorial decision to play his character in this way----a calm, mild-mannered man who in a moments notice could be lethal; yet I truly believed he loved his wife. And she him. Their relationship is what pulled me in and kept me involved. Their acting was superb. But what I truly loved about this movie was the human aspect----the drama of their child's birth, the love of parents for a child, the domestic satisfying life they had, and her sacrificial love for her husband. Why is this so often overlooked or under appreciated by critics and movie goers alike ? I haven't cried in a movie in a long time, but this one made me cry. Especially in the end, when she wrote the letter to her daughter and described her husband as her world. This movie was full of depth of emotion. And made any weakness that it may or may not have had, worthwhile. It will long stay with me.

I don't know...
... if Brad Pitt is a good actor or if I just like the movies he is in or I like the characters he plays, maybe all three, but this film is no different. I like the character, I like the way Pitt plays the character and I like the film. Marion Cotillard is a very good actress pretending to be a very good actress. Most rational people know that getting involved with a co-worker you know is bad, but getting involved with a co-worker you don't know is even worse and that is the premise of the film. Oddly, or maybe not, both characters seem acutely aware of that at their first dinner, or the first dinner we see, however the specter of imminent death causes them to cast caution to the wind, and Cotillard's character points that out as the wind rises.C'est la guerre. The costumes are just plain spot on and makes me wonder why we don't bring back 40's styles. Even I would look great in clothes like Pitt's character wears in the Moroccan scenes. Cotillard is spectacular if she were wrapped in grocery bags, but the costumes she lights up were very carefully curated and exemplary of couture in those days. The cinematography is outstanding, special effects are good, the film is paced well jumping smoothly over things we can surmise, and how Pitt's character handles the revelations are probably how any man would deal with such a situation knowing so much is at stake.I can't go further w/o spoiling things, so I'll sign off by saying this movie should be required reading -so to speak- for any covert ops personnel. Such as this has to be an ever present dilemma for them.

RIVETING WORLD WAR TWO SPY THRILLER
When the action starts in Casablanca, the setting has been set. The film is worth seeing, even for non Brad Pitt fans. It has its breathtaking moments, and WW II cloak and dagger fans would have a great time. The characters are complex, and Marianne is the best one of all. Using a period term, she is an enigma here, but she is hardly the cold blooded assassin you might expect. Both are vulnerable, and both struggle to endure the challenge of war. Cest la guerre. The production design completes the package, there is the music and the madness, as well as the hope of life after the horrors of war. The love story is brilliantly woven into the thriller, and this is bound to be a classic. There are far more dramatic stories of the SOE and the world of Intrepid, the Abwehr, and the Resistance, but this production is most recommended. Brad Pitt deserves to have more projects and of course, Marianne Vatan, you are a goddess.
