Great paints with adjustable opacity
When I was shopping for some quality metallic watercolors, I was frustrated by the lack of black paper swatching in reviews. So after buying this (despite my hesitance) I decided to show how it looks on black paper. Here are some swatches as well as two paintings - the outlines on both chickens are embossed. In the golden chicken, I used a high concentration of this paint (just a few drops of water) and was able to achieve a solid metallic look. In the white chicken I used the metallic paints as a background color, and drew details on top with other paints. As you can see, this set is versatile and works for both solid paintings and transparent layering.Yes, as the other review says, the pans do appear to be half full. However, this set is water activated, which means you have to drop in a few drops of water and let it soak a little, then mix it into a paste. I find the extra space in the pans useful for this mixing.I also do handlettering, and to be honest that is the only thing I don't think these paints will be good for. To achieve the opaque effect I had to go over the spots several times, even when using a tiny amount of water. This would be frustrating to do when handlettering. For handlettering I prefer the Kuretake starry gold set (forgot the exact name), which is only a few dollars more. However, when it comes to painting, I like this set better as it allows more room to achieve the desired effect.Another thing this set does beautifully is layering over non-metallic colors. It is absolutely beautiful and can transform any matte colors into a shimmering delicate unique hue. Conclusion :If you are looking for a set of metallic watercolors, look no further! If you are looking for specifically handlettering watercolor, please try the Kuretake! :)Thanks for reading! I hope this helped and I hope you like my chickens :)

Amazing watercolors, beautiful colors and soo shiny!
I am really impressed with these watercolors. I wanted some metallics without paying a huge amount and I couldnt be happier. These come with 12 beautiful colors they're fairly inexpensive while still being a really great quality and they shipped in 3 days. They have super awesome coverage, they can go on as transparent or opaque as you want them to. They do paint over black while still staying vibrant (you may need more layers for this, but still!) And the colors are seriously gorgeous! I swatched them in the photos one with flash on and one off so you can see the color vibrancy and the shimmer although my camera did neither justice. They do flow welling a wet wash also so you have the option to drop them in and let them do what they do, or you can paint them on dry paper and have all the control you want. These are absolutely amazing paints. The only downsides are they have no color names and no paint information like lightfastness or ingredients but you may be able to look them up I havent tried yet. I have to say the list of complaints is insignificant compared to all the positives of these. They are fantastic and highly recommended from this chick

Way better than I expected!
My art teacher recommended this product. I didn't think it what be as great as it turned out to be. This metallic paint can be used in so many fun ways in your painting and everytime I use it I get all these "ohhh" and "ahhh thats so cool" Comments from anyone who checks it out! Totally work it and great price. The pans are big and the paint is smooth and creamy. An excellent addition to my paint box!

Mixed Feelings
I think these look great on white paper, on black paper they are a tad streaky. Also, like many others, some of my pans were not full which is disappointing. The white, copper, red and one green seem to be only half filled. I tried to show it in the photos.I haven’t seen anyone mention the smell either, but when I open the lid the watercolors smell strongly of chemicals. I can’t quite put my finger on it, almost like chlorine maybe? Very odd.I think they shimmer nicely for the price, but I don’t know that I’d repurchase at this point. Maybe if Prima fixes the filling of the pans.

I think they are a good buy. I’ve tried several different brands of metallic ...
Alright I see a lot of people are upset about how the pans are filled. Admittedly, yes they do look a little under-filled, as you can see in some of the review photos. That said, I don’t consider it to be that big of a deal. There is still plenty of product in the pans and they are fairly large pans to begin with. Given the price and quality of these paints, I think they are a good buy. I’ve tried several different brands of metallic watercolors and I think these are really great for the price. They’re very pigmented and shimmery. I would recommend these over the Shimmering Lights pallette, which I found to be quite disappointing. Overall I’m a big fan of the prima watercolor confections sets, but if I had purchased this set first then I wouldn’t have bothered with Shimmering Lights. If you’re on the fence about these and aren’t bothered by the way the pans are filled, get em!! You won’t regret it.
