Bad build quality. Same problem happened with replacement unit.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I really wanted to have a good experience with this drive. I’m a bedroom Dj that uses pioneer gear so I was curious to see the quality of their drives. The functionality of the drive itself seems fine. Speeds seem good. Size and aesthetics good. Price was great but I guess you get what you pay for.The problem lies in the build quality of the casing. When unplugging the usb c cable from the drive itself, the entire drive would come out of its casing. (See pictures) the only way to prevent this from happening was to carefully hold the panel the port is in while pulling the cable out. I contacted the seller and they sent over a replacement and the exact same issue happened immediately!! The panel holding the internals to the protective house is not being properly manufactured.Avoid!!

Received a defective product, but there are other issues too..
Performance: I can't really say much as I received a defective product that was dead on arrival. The device was recognized, but it could not be formatted/initialized with an error message saying that there was a 'fatal error' on the hardware.Portability: Pretty small and light. (Almost feels like a slim NVME SSD enclosure)Build quality - the outer casing of the enclosure keeps getting pulled out, exposing the internals of the device, EVERY TIME I try to unplug the USB cable from the device. Not the build quality I had expected from a global brand.I'd say there are better options out there for the price.

Decent USBC SSD - Uses SM2263XT
Overall, I purchased this for testing Linux installs via a USB drive and wanted something with more speed than a traditional flash drive. This delivers and runs very well, even as a beefier portable drive. Be warned the board is only held in by snapped-on plastic that can easily come apart, but it snaps back in and the metal case is pretty hardy. If you have to ask, the drive inside is an NVME to USB C adapter with a Silicon Motion SM2263XT (in the case of the 512GB). For the record, it is a DRAM-less SSD, but the price makes sense for it and even though I am using this for OS testing over USB, it still runs fine.I've seen plenty of negative reviews, but considering how easy it is to take apart and basically get an NVME USB reader, I'd argue that if you plan to buy it with the understanding the SSD in it isn't the best, if it should ever stop working, chances are you either have a still functional SSD or a still functional reader.

Good sequential performance
The Pioneer 512GB External SSD-USB C comes in a slim and portable packaging which is handy for travelling use. I tested it with the latest Crystalmark benchmark which it came out quite nice.As a relative comparison using the same PC for testing against other brand of SD cards, the Pioneer SSD performs about 5 times faster than the Samsung Evo MicroSD card on sequential performance and about 2 times faster for random operations. The Pioneer SSD performs about 3 times better in sequential operations then random operations. This implies that it would do very well for videos which are mainly in sequential format as compared to data processing operations with more random data.

Drive Constantly Overheats
I bought this portable drive to use on the go with my MacBook Pro. At first, it seemed to work great. It's incredibly portable, and has great storage capacity and transfer speeds. However, after about a month of frequent use, the drive would randomly eject itself from my laptop. Over time, the issue persisted and eventually the drive stopped reading altogether. I managed to fix the issue by plugging it into my windows PC and reformatting the drive, but the same thing happened again less than 2 weeks later. I've noticed that the drive gets incredibly hot, even when I'm not transferring any files, and this seems to be the cause of the random ejections. This product has little to no support on the Pioneer website, so I doubt this issue will ever be resolved. The small, portable size of this drive may seem appealing, but you would probably be better off purchasing a bulkier one with less problems.

so far it's great
I didn't realize my hard drive this replaced was 6 years old. They usually last me 5 years and then die.I love the size of this ssd. It's tucked in a small space between my stuff. Totally out of the way. And in the open to help keep it from getting hot. I managed to get my data off the drive that was dying.I decided this time I'd get a ssd instead of another hdd. This was a great price and again, can't stress it enough, love the small size!

Good, but Lackluster perfromance on USB 3 on Macbook Pro
My USB 3.0 port can transfer up to 5 GB/sec, so I was hoping to get more speed from this device. I've attached my Black Magic benchmark which shows I get consistent read & writes > 400 Mbps. It's fast enough for video, but not even half of its speed capability.I've attached a snippet showing device ID and the speed capability of my port.Be careful when disconnecting the cable from the drive: If you're not careful, the whole circuit board will slide out.

You have to keep a cable or 2 on hand.
It's a nice looking small form factor product. It does everything it claims. These drives are well built and solid. The only downside is the fact that you must have a compatible usb cable to use the device. I know in some ways this can be preferred.

Not as fast as people are claiming and does not work well with the latest macbooks.
Tried the device with both the latest Macbook Pro laptops (M1) and the speed was pitiful. I tried it with the PC and the speed was rubbish less than several generations ago SATA SSDs.Tried formatting the drive several times with different filesystems which made no difference. Tried different cables made no difference. When I pulled the USB C cable out the first time it pulled out half the drive which clips back in again but still didn't give me a lot of confidence. To be clear all this drive is, is a M.2 drive on a small PCB with a small processor to manage the data I/O. While the idea has potential it doesn't seem like its been implemented very well. This one is going back.

Doesn't Work On MacBook Pro 16
I bought two of these and neither were picked up by my MacBook Pro 16.I tried a variety of cables and ports. Even a re-start didn't help.It worked fine with a 2013 iMac using a USB A cable. So they are not faulty as such but just not compatible with modern Mac computers.

Not sure about this yet
Gets very hot and not as fast as expected. I use this with a Pioneer XDJ RR Mix Controller but as i said it gets quite hot.

Ottimo prodotto.
Però ora legge e scrive a 400 Mb/sec. Ora 2 rimbalzi e via..... Volaaaa!
