learning curve necessary but awesome product
Don't do what we did and convince your dog to jump in without them having stood on it and felt the texture on their feel before hand... on dry land. We nearly had to boost her up there. Also, it would be nice if it had some sort of locking mechanism where it rests against the dock/boat etc. Since we used it over our ladder (there was no dock behind it but open space) we had to hope the rests would push against the ladder. It did, unless a boat went by and there were a lot of waves. If the posts had attachable 3" square feet, it wouldn't miss and slip off the narrow ladder parts. That being said, I don't know if it is made for ladders but there was no other way to hook it to our dock. Our lab got the hang of it, figured out she needed to approach straight on instead of from the side and then she'd jump the rest of the way. If she were old and arthritic, she may have had a hard time getting from the ramp to the dock because it was about 2.5 ft lower than the dock. My 15lb cavalier King Charles had no problem swimming up to it and standing on the platform. She would need to be lifted out since she's small though. I'm glad we got it. Just don't leave it out because if it does come unhooked, it's going to sink. Adjusting while in the water is crazy hard, but from a boat or dock, not so bad. But sometimes you have to be eye-level to see where the feet that rest against the boat/dock/ladder are going to line up.

Perfect!
Haven’t used yet, but fits my boat perfectly with some easy adjustments. Nice and compact when you fold it up, and super light and easy setup! Had one minor defect missing the hole in the hinge rod for the cotter pic. Called the seller and they shipped a replacement out right away with no hesitation! Awesome customer service!

Beware! Beavertail Dog Ladder has fabrication issues, but can be repaired with a little work using metric thread tap.
At only 11-3/4" wide, it's pretty narrow. So even a small dog may have difficulty using it. Main complaint is that the 6 threaded blocks (for knob adjusters) are poorly threaded, resulting in loose, sloppy fit of knob adjusters. I had to use a M8-1.25 tap (with lubricating oil) to clean up the holes so the knob adjusters would thread in properly. Then the knobs screwed in better, but were still loose and sloppy. I plan to assemble using glue, Teflon tape, silicone sealant, or LocTite to take up the slop and add some friction to keep from loosing the knobs. When I complained to Amazon about all this, they promptly sent me a replacement which had all the same problems. So I believe this is a manufacturing problem will ALL the units. So don't think, as I did, that they have resolved the problem by now. If it were 6" wider with clean, properly threaded holes, I'd really like it. As is, I'm not too impressed. If you buy, be prepared to do some re-work of the threads as I did.

Fit right into our existing ladder holes!! Haven't tried it in the water yet, but seems like it'll be perfect! As you can see by the water line on the toon, the lowest platform is about 4" under water.UPDATE! Works good in the water besides that fact my dog is scared of everything so he hasn't gotten the hang of it yet and needs help, also want to put a rubber coating so he feels more comfortable to come up on it. NOTE- We did have to alter very slightly. You can see in pic 2 instead of inserting the posts into the hole then screwing in, we mounted on the outside of the holes then screw in.

Great Quality & Easily Adjustable
Works great! Easy to put together; just use the thumb screws that are included. I have a 2 yo, 120lb Lab that figured it out the first time. Very sturdy! We have a couple boats and this adjusts easily to both.My only concern is that we'll accidentally drop it off the back off the boat and it's going to end up at the bottom of the river swimm'in with the fishies ;-)

Attention to detail needed
Since I haven't had a chance to use the ladder yet due to missing parts, I'll comment on what I can. I like the design and the fact that it is adjustable. It is relatively narrow but this allows it to fit on the transom, which is the only place I can put it with a blind installed. The OEM packaging from Beavertail is poor (Amazon shipped the Beavertail box containing all components in a larger box, so this was not an Amazon issue). The rails and platform are just put in the box without any additional packaging to keep them from rattling and rubbing during shipping which caused the paint to wear off in several spots. Not a big deal for me since I will probably repaint it anyway. Before I noticed that the hinge pin was not in the box (the critical missing part), I began putting the ladder together. The material, design and fit look pretty decent but the welding of the materials is fair. Several of the welds were boogers at best and there were 2 spots where the weld undercut the gusset, leaving a sharp corner. There are 6 locking knobs to assemble and adjust the ladder. They are beefy and easy to adjust, even with gloves. The aluminum blocks they screw into for assembly are the worst part. They are tapped ~3\8" aluminum. As most who work with it know, tapping aluminum requires patience, a sharp tap and lubricant. I was very careful when I started the 1st locking knob into the threads and stopped as soon I encounted any resistance. I removed the knob and inspected all of the tapped holes. 4 of the 6 tapped holes were gaulled up with ripped threads, right out of the box. This is clearly a manufacturing issue that needs to be addressed since it will make assembly difficult to impossible without chasing the threads with a good tap. Even then, the knob is only held by 3 or 4 good threads. At that point I noticed the hinge pin was missing which made the ladder useless. I called Amazon and they are sending a new one, which I hope resolves the issue.10/11/14 update - I received the replacement from Amazon. The packaging was slightly better with the pieces zip tied together and all parts were in the box. I checked the tapped holes and this one was worse than the first - with 1 hole completely reamed out to the point that the knob slid through the "tapped" hole, meaning the ladder cannot be assembled. 2 strikes. Can't imagine this will be on the market much longer unless they address this.
