A lovely aerator, worth of gifting to a wine lover in your life - and yourself
I love a good red wine. Merlot is a favorite, but other reds make the cut as well. But, as a wine lover, I also don't have a lot of money to spend on $50.00 bottles of wine. Hence, a good aerator is a must have for me.Don't know what an aerator is? An aerator's purpose is to expand the surface area of wine, which allows the air to mingle with it. Aerators force air to be circulated throughout, giving the wine with an expanded aromatic profile and/or softer tannins. While you can allow your wine to "breathe", by leaving the decanted bottle out for a period of time, I am the only person in my house to drink wine, so leaving it out to breath then putting it away isn't practical for me. Hence, an aerator.There are quite a few aerators on the market, ranging from a few dollars upwards to $100 or more. At $13.99 this aerator is a steal. Slick and sophisticated in looks, the aerator opens up your glass, encouraging development of the wines scent and flavour in moments. I have a tendency to decide on a glass of wine at the last moment, as I find a moment in the evenings to curl up with a good book and good music. Being able to pop the aerator in and pour a glass is quite convenient. And even a $10.00 Tempranillo from Spain, good enough on its own, is raised to the level of a $30.00 Sauvignon, at least to my palette.I invested in a high quality aerator years ago, but honestly? Excellent Product!
I've tried a couple of lower-priced wine aerators and was not overly impressed. This one, though, clearly aerates the wine and it does seem to help improve the flavor of even a less-expensive wine. I will admit that it seems to be kind of an odd design, but I am very favorably impressed with how much air it seems to get to the wine. The Richome Speed Wine Aerator also seems to be very sturdy and well built. Highly recommended!

Well Constructed Good Quality Product
Full disclosure: this is not a product I would have seen myself purchasing or needing. After using it however, I can see where having this around may prove quite useful.The spout ships in a good looking plastic case that can be used to store it as well. I'm happy that the box has some instructions - as simple as this product may be, instructions are always welcome. The spout itself is very well constructed - it's solid and feels like it will last. The aeration happens while pouring, as evidenced by a satisfying liquid tornado and bubbling sound as you pour. According to the Internet, not all wine requires aeration and the ones that do are typically red wines.I was pleased with the solid fit of the spout in the bottle - there was no leakage and it's nice to not have to tip the bottle very far to achieve a pour. If you are a bottle-pouring challenged individual who enjoys red wine, this is a great buy. I think it would make an excellent stocking stuffer-type gift, as well.I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review.
