MULTI mode does not function -- Apeman SL350 Flash
I recently purchased the Apeman SL350 Flash. I wanted to use the flash in MULTI mode with my Fujifilm XE1. But when I put the flash on my camera's hot shoe, and set the SL350 to MULTI mode (set to some # of flashes and Hz), the flash only fires once after I press the camera's shutter button. The desired # of flashes are fired if I use the PILOT button. But do I need to use the PILOT button to fire the flash in MULTI mode? Or should the camera's shutter button work? The Flash was great for Manual and S1 setting. But I had to return the Flash since the MULTI mode didn't work with the Fujifilm. Great customer service.

Well made, syncs perfectly and has lots of power to avoid the ugliness of weak, underpowered on-camera flash.
Well-crafted unit that's easy to use and has lots of power for fill-in flash. I hate the on-camera flash provided with most cameras as the results are harsh, unnatural and unflattering (not to mention having too much contrast). However, if you can balance the flash by bouncing off the ceiling, or another large area (like a bounce-card, or soft-box) you can achieve perfect contrast and natural-looking results. This flash has the power to fill in very large areas (Guide Number of 58 @ ISO 100 = f-58 at 10 feet - most cameras don't have that small of an aperture, so a more realistic setting could be f-11 @ 30 feet. Since this setting is at full power, and assuming you want the scene to look natural, all you really need is half-power or less; you could easily light a room with a 60 foot ceiling with no increase in sensor speed, which translates into higher-quality images). This flash allows you to power down to 1/128 power, and with just a little bit of trial and error, I was able to achieve wonderful fill-in flash, leaving the shots looking perfectly natural, yet having detail in the shadows without burning out the highlights. Ansel Adams (whose Zone system I used to use shooting 4 x 5 view-camera work) would have loved to have this capability while he was in his prime!Better still, it syncs up flawlessly with my Olympus OM D and probably all the other major brands this unit is designed to work with. As a former professional photographer, who worked with massive manually-operated Bron-color and Norman flash units over 2000 watt-seconds per-head for over two decades, I can say that this flash is so good that with modern digital cameras, you can ditch all the heavy gear and do many photo-genres with ease. No, you probably can't light a car against a curved wall in a studio, but you certainly could fill it in very nicely on location (with people in the shot). All in all, perfect for my much-downsized image requirements, now that I no longer have to be creative on demand, and can again pursue the love of photography without the need to earn money at the same time. Enjoy, you won't be disappointed.

A decent Speedlite Flash from APEMAN
I was looking for a flash for my Canon T1i and this would be my first external camera flash. I bought this APEMAN SL350 Speedlite Flash to try out how external flash works for me before I invest more into a high-end external flash. The package contains Apeman SL350 Speedlite Flash, Camera Flash Stand, Wireless Infrared Remote Control, Hard Diffuser, Carrying Case, and User Manual. The GN (Guide Number) on this Apeman SL350 is 58 and it's fairly powerful for a camera flash at this price range (A higher GN number means a more powerful flash). It supports zoom coverage from 24mm to 105mm and M/MULTI/S1/S2 flash modes. The SL350 doesn't support any kind of TTL but it does work with most DSLRs. The way it works is that all the settings have to be manually adjusted (since it doesn't support TTL so camera can't adjust the flash unit directly) but the flash can be triggered by the included remote control, camera flash control (in M/MULTI mode, when SL350 is mounted on camera) or camera's built-in flash (in S1/S2 modes, through S:350's optical sensor). SL350 has 8 steps of power output control from 1/128 to 1/1, and 22 fine tuning points. The unit requires 4 AA batteries to operate and they aren't included in the package. It can also be powered from an external power source. The angle can be adjusted vertically from 0 to 90 degrees and horizontally from 0 to 270 degrees. The recycle time in MULTI mode is pretty fast and can go faster than half a second (However, less powerful flash than in M mode). I use MULTI mode most time to take pictures when my kids are moving around. The battery life is fair and I can usually take about 300-600 pictures with every 4 fully charged AA batteries as I typically take pictures at between 1/4 - 1/32 power output. This camera flash will automatically enter power-saving mode after being idle for a while. Overall this SL350 has served me well as I prefer to manually setup my shots most time.
