Really good natural cleaner for all things kitchen
I recently became the office manager at a new company, and one of the first things I noticed in the office was that the dishwasher smelled like old socks. It was absolutely insane. Whenever someone would open the door of the dishwasher, you could smell it from at least ten feet away. As it was my responsibility to take care of it, I stepped up to the task and reached in the filter and felt the most disgusting gunk that was a weird rotten cottage cheese color and smelled even worse. I ordered the Glisten Magic cleaner after having nightmares about the gunk and reading a few reviews. I gave the first bottle of glisten a try, it worked okay, a lot of the gunk was washed out of there, and the smell subsided quite a bit. I tried the second bottle, and everything was great, the gunk was mostly gone and the smell was mostly gone and it was a huge improvement. Now, after two or three days, I noticed that the smell, albeit fainter, was coming back. When I walked by the dishwasher, I could smell the same funk from before, so I came back to Amazon to see if there had been a step I missed with the glisten, and found out accidentally that this products main component is citric acid. Well, if that’s the main ingredient, why not use pure citric acid, which I happen to have at home (I use it for making mozzarella). I brought in my Citric Acid Powder - Ultra Fine Pure Powdered Crystals - Natural Preservative Food Grade Quality (16 oz), and put it into the dishwasher and gave the washer a go. The results were amazing. The machine looked just about the same as it did the second time I used the glisten, but this time there was no gunk at all left in the filter, and even after five days, the smell hasn’t returned. The citric acid really gave the dishwasher the final push it needed to being a functional appliance again. I recommend both the glisten AND the citric acid to anyone with a dishwasher. While the Glisten didn’t get rid of the super funk the way I wanted, I don’t think the citric acid could have done the job alone. Buy these two together! You won’t regret it.

Amazing Cleaner
This is amazing!! I have very hard water and have struggled with the dishwasher getting clogged with limescale and things not getting clean. Now I run this through my dishwasher once per month and don’t have issues anymore. I wish I knew about this product sooner to save a lot of headaches trying to fix the dishwasher. It is very easy to use. You just have to remove the cover, put it in the dishwasher, and start the dishwasher. If you have hard water, this product is a must have!!

Nice and clean!
We just upgraded our old and worthless Kenmore dishwasher to a new Thermador stainless steel dishwasher. It is much nicer and quieter. We do have hard water which took a toll on our old dishwasher. I figured I better treat this new dishwasher a little better because it cost a lot more money. We used our new dishwasher for about two months before I decided to order some of this dishwasher cleaner. Since it was a new dishwasher it did not have a lot of noticeable smell or build up but I figured I shouldn't wait until there is a problem to start using it.I guess I didn't read the description well enough when I was ordering because I figured two bottles would be enough for a lot of cleanings but it turns out that you use an entire bottle for a cleaning. To use it you take the lid off and then place it upside down in your silverware basket. The neck is plugged with a wax plug. As the wash cycle gets hot it melts the wax and releases the cleaner into the hot wash cycle. I imagine the wax dissolves in the hot water and then is flushed out with the hot water. After running an entire bottle through the cycle it seems to have cleaned the stainless steel a bit. Like I said this was a new washer so it was pretty clean to start with. There was no harsh chemical smell or residue left behind which was nice.

Excellent job cleaning my dishwasher
I have a "portable", countertop dishwasher. Because of space constraints, it's actually under the counter, and so there's often some water left in the bottom after a cycle that the pump couldn't get out. It's a wonderful little appliance, but over a couple years it had built up hard water deposits and foul-looking stuff inside the tank that supplies the sprayers and has the heating element. Bleach would sanitize the tank, but not remove the build-up. Because it was especially funky, I used the following routine:1. I used one of the two bottles in the dishwasher on its hottest, longest cycle. This did a fantastic job of removing most of the hard water buildup, and loosened the remainder that was on the filter screens at the base of the spray arm.2. I took out the filters, cleaned them with dish soap (previously, even CLR or Lime Away hardly helped), and put about a cup of concentrated bleach inside the dishwasher where the filters would go, in order to finish cleaning the water reservoir. I allowed this to sit about two hours to kill any bacteria or fungus present.3. I ran the dishwasher again with the second bottle on the same heavy-duty cycle. This finished cleaning the filters, and noticeably improved the function of the side sprayers and spray arm.I highly recommend this product - it's inexpensive on Amazon, and worth it unless you have citric acid handy. If you've never cleaned your dishwasher, use both bottles provided and a little bleach. After that, one bottle every so often will work fine.
