Q: What is the spring loaded item for, and how is it used?

It is a corner cutter to give you a square corner, as using the router bit will cut the hinge/ latch opening with rounded edges. There are two edges on the bottom of the cutter, place it in each corner and hammer down on the spring loaded bar to make the cut. Practice on an old door or piece of timber if you are unsure. Tbh I don't use it as they're not overly reliable. I use traditional chisel method to cut the corners out.

Q: what is included? not clear to me if it includes the corner punch.... I am guessing it doesn't.....

Everything in the picture was included. I wasn’t sure what the little yellow brush was for though.

Q: Will this jig work with a round base on a makita palm router/trimmer?

Yes it will fit palm routers it works fine with them

Q: Can this be used to cut for the door jam for the hinge

Unfortunately not. I just set the depth of my small router to cut depth in door jam and it worked fine
