Great Product at Unbelievable Value
Purchased the soft car top carrier for our approximately 2000 mile family road trip from Michigan, to DC, then the New Jersey shore and back home and I couldn't have made a better choice! From other reviews I had a couple concerns regarding waterproofing, durability, flapping straps and drag - NONE occurred for us and it completely met our needs of storing and hauling ancillary beach equipment (boogie boards, chairs, umbrellas, etc.) to and from the East Coast. I also made a video review on Vimeo of my experience.PROS:Light weight - easy to unfold, position, adjust and store during and afterwards;Waterproof - we went through a number of huge downpours and didn't have any leaking whatsoever. We only had a little condensation occur on the underside of the back - it stayed completely dry if you follow the instructions for zipping and velcro-ing;Flexible - the soft sides make it easy to adjust to strange shaped objects and the front clam shell style opening allows for simple loading - just zip it up as you fill it and work from front to back;Ample Storage - the 15 cubic ft of storage is substantial, but also has a slightly lower profile than some hard shells and other car top bag style carriers;Durable - the fabric is very tough and stood up to all types of standard road debris;Affordable - HUGE bang for the buck compared to hard-shellsCONS:Not Secure - as you can imagine, the fabric can allow for relatively easy break in and although we did not do it, should at the very least have the two zippers locked together. That said, the fabric is tough and I would imagine that it would be a little bit of work with a knife to cut through it to access all of your gear. Store non-valuable, non-essential gear if planning to stay overnight and not remove it;Not Readily Removable - given the above, you may wish to consider removing when you get to an intermediate destination, but this requires unlatching all 8 straps and lugging the entire unit down with it's contents or individually unloading and bringing inside the car or lodging. This is cumbersome to say the least; Not Stable When Empty - without any contents, it wants to turn into a kite. Take it off when not filled - it is pretty easy; Two quick additional notes: 1) we bought and used a roof protector mat - we chose to put it directly onto the roof to reduce the profile and maximize connection points. We didn't want it to slide or damage our paint, so I recommend purchasing one - ours happened to fit perfectly without any cutting. 2) connecting to the car AFTER it is loaded, felt a little strange. This really wasn't a big deal and makes a ton of sense when you actually think about it, but maybe it was just me, but it felt awkward not to secure it first and then you had to wrangle the straps a little to get it locked down.We stored a ton of stuff in the unit and were really happy with our purchase. I'd completely recommend this product. Happy and safe travels.

2500 Miles And Counting
Purchased this to take on a recent trip from Indiana to Texas. I used this on a Honda Odyssey loaded up with a family of six, luggage for two weeks (including Christmas gifts), and a Kuat hitch mounted bike rack with two mountain bikes and averaged 20mpg over approximately 2500 miles. We have a roof rack but I'd suggest using a protective mat in between the rails as I put a small ding in the roof when lugging one of the suit cases unto the roof and into the bag. The bag worked great overall and the straps held at speeds up to 85mph although most of the trip was 70-75mph. We experienced rain for almost the entire drive from Indiana to Texas, which was sixteen hours and everything stayed dry.Tightening the straps is somewhat of a pain but that was to be expected. I have terrible luck and was paranoid so I used a ratchet strap across the center of the bag just in case but the included straps held just fine. Next trip I'd probably just use two ratchet straps; one length wise in the center and the other centered width wise as it would be faster to strap/unstrap with the roof rails than the included 8 straps connected to the bag.In regards to size and storage space, I was able to fit two large suitcases, a box fan, a soft medium sized roller bag, 5 winter jackets, three hooded sweatshirts, and a bicycle floor pump no problem. We've made a similar family trip before without a rooftop bag and it was a HUGE pain fitting everything in the van. In my opinion, a rooftop bag (or another means of external storage) is absolutely necessary for extended length trips with four kids. This trip was way better with the addition of this bag as it freed up passenger space and made getting into and out of the vehicle much easier for the kids when it came time for pit stops and bathroom breaks! This bag was well worth the $40 I paid and I would have been just as happy if it were a throw away at that price given the convenience factor. After 2500 miles it looks just as good as when I pulled it out of the box and will be used on the next trip we take. Extremely pleased with the quality and construction of this product and highly recommended it! A+

Easy to store roof storage
This fit a ton of stuff (three sleeping bags, bedding, two duffel bags of clothes and assorted soft stuff for camping). While it worked well, here are my issues/suggestions for it.1 - If you are putting this on and it is hot outside you will get burned from the black fabric. This sucker got hot. I have a black car, so I am sure that didn't help, but still, super hot.2 - I found that zipping this up almost 3/4 of the way and stuffing it from one side worked the best. When I first started putting things in I did the load from both sides and try to see what would fit. Having no idea how high the top is until you zip it up makes it a crap shoot. When I re-loaded on the way home I just shoved everything in from one side and it went much faster and smoother.3 - Since this fell between my roof rails and laid on the roof of the car I did not feel comfortable putting anything too heavy, or hard on top of the car, as it would be right on the roof.4 - Have someone help. I put this on by myself and it took a while. Another set of hands would make this go faster.5 - This stores easy, so that is helpful.6 - There were no directions in the box. It's not hard to figure out, but still, a little guidance would have been good.
