Odd moments of grainy picture but otherwise ok
An excellent series and I am looking forward too the film when it comes out, which carries on from the series. The picture quality is a bit variable at times and grain can be seen quite easily on occasion. A bit like playing a DVD on a 4K screen, just as I have found on the DVD box set of Boston Legal, which is just about watchable on a 4K TV.The lip sync issue other reviewers have reported in episode four of season one, DID NOT show up on my 4K OPPO 205 player. This does not mean that another player will play these discs with no problems however, so do check how they play on your own system and if there is an issue, send them back for a refund. If they play on a different machine ok, then the machine that shows a problem up may be picking-up on something in the discs that another machine doesn't.I once had a CD that played ok on a cheap Marantze player (about £100 I think it was) but my Meridian 24 bit 508 refused to play the track that had a big scratch on it and wouldn't even go past the problem to play the rest of the disc.. You would think it would have been the other way around but no, the expensive player couldn't cope with the damage on the disc surface. Go figure. It could be something similar happening with the Deadwood discs as certain players get upset but others don't. If all players play blu rays perfectly otherwise, then the fault could be said to be with the discs. But then, blu ray players are like computers at the end of the day and we all know how reliable computers are.Yeah right. It is sad to think that you buy these particular discs at your own peril, so be prepared to send them back is my advice.

Mr Wu has a name for you.
Series=5★ Bluray QC=0★ Paramount et al. well ask Mr Wu.This was a bargain at sub-twenty pounds. I cannot stop rewatching Deadwood. Acting, characters, setting and writing all delicious. I hesitate to pick anyone out but Ian McShane, you have more than repaid the pain I endured having to watch Lovejoy for what seemed like forever. You are forgiven. Series is a rarity and I can only think of a few other series on a par with this a few also cancelled for strange reasons. It is so good I will put up with the technical sync issue on S1E4. Once or twice I have had some lesser sync issues on other episodes but clicking around options changing audio tracks back and forth always clears them but not the one in S1E4. This is still there on the newest issue (checked the bar code) and a fully updated networked Panasonic. No other BR discs in my collection have this issue.I only purchased because Amazon streaming, which satisfied my craving (without sync issues) for a long while, now its not available.Anyway, to those responsible for cancelling the series and those responsible for the disc pressing and those who blame problems on our hardware, Mr Wu has a name for you all and heres a clue it is not “San Francisco”.

Great Show, Ok Blu ray
The show gets 5 stars without question the Blurry release is poor.Sure enough episode four has a huge audio delay lip sync issue. If you have a decent surround sound amp there should be a setting for delay. I set mine 300 milli seconds difference between episode four and any other episode. So you can correct it but you shouldn't have to. I don't know how they get this kind of thing wrong and there should be a discount for bad mastering or something that said picture quality is great and it's great to see this excellent TV show in high definition. The only way to buy this Blu-ray set previously was £90 in USA region so overall I'm quite happy with the purchase. However I've yet to find any of the extras that were on the DVD set.UpdateI've given it another star because watching it again made me realise just how good this show is, now on on my third watch and it just gets better and better, the sad state of affairs is that there is also another episode with audio sync issues. I managed to adjust the delay to compensate but what a shame that they couldn't deliver a quality product and there are no extras.

Excellent Series, totally engaging.
Simply brilliant HBO series. Being new to it I had held off buying on the combination of the strength of a number of the complaints here online in relationship to episode 4 and that I'm not overly fond of westerns. While not wishing to excuse the poor production (simply should not have happened) nor disrespect the strength of feeling (it's a blu-ray and as such those who buy it and pay a premium for equipment and software are rightly used too and expect better) I have to say I was left feeling that the complaints are overdone. The issue is notable but affects just one of 36 episodes, given that I was able to still enjoy the episode without recourse to cussing and having paid less than 20 pounds this represents a 'value' of around 60p. Given that I was looking for the issue and tend to be quite picky I was pleasantly surprised by how unobtrusive the issue actually is. If you are holding off on the strength of this issue I implore you not too, you'll miss a wonderful series that unfortunately was cancelled way, way too soon. In between the swearing there is some really sharp dialogue, I strongly suspect that on second viewing I'll pick up even more detail. Hope this helps...
