The Cream Of The BEAUTICONE Crop
Disclosure: This was sent to me for free via the Vine program. I did not receive monetary compensation to write this review, just the product itself.Ahhhhh, shavettes. My dearest love and most fickle mistress. A good one will glide across your skin like buttered grease while a bad one will peel your skin off like someone zesting an orange. I've tried a lot of shavettes by this point and have gotten a feel for each brand on here that have come across my Vine queue. I've reviewed some BEAUTICONE razors before and I hadn't been impressed but when this one came up, I was suitably intrigued. Eschewing the normal loading process for a slide-action razor piqued my interest so I put in for it. I prepped my shave area and waited for it to arrive. It comes in a simple plastic bag with an instruction card, the razor in a soft plastic slip case, and 100 Crown blades. For the purposes of testing, I used the Crown blades as that's what it came from but, to be honest, I am not a fan of them whatsoever. However, I wanted a consistent and realistic representation of what someone buying this would get so I went with it anyway. I pulled one of the blades out of the tuck, gave the razor a rinse, and loaded it. To start, the razor itself is beautiful. Matte black coated with no inconsistencies in the coating with a buttery smooth hinge and an easy to remove slide-action blade holder. I'd recommend lubricating the slide-action blade holder as it does work metal on metal so it can feel a bit...gritty so I did that with a bit of mineral oil and it worked a treat. Loading the blade is more complicated than it is with a standard shavette: it's more of a tilt and align rather than a drop and align. But it proved easy enough. It did give that metal on metal feel when it shuts but that was just the blade dragging on the spring tensioned shavette lips so there's nothing you can do about that other than maybe pre-greasing your blade. Shaving with it was exceptionally easy. I shaved my forearms, as I normally do for shavette tests, and it gave an incredibly close shave with minimal nicks. The nicks I did get I firmly attribute to the Crown blade (they cut me like a cheese grater in lesser shavettes) as the razor performed flawlessly from a technical standpoint: easy to hold angle, firmly locked blade with no wiggle or play, easy to operate hinge, the works. All told, I think this razor is the cream of the BEAUTICONE line. It's a bit more involved than a standard shavette but, with a good blade, it will shave significantly better than their other offerings every single time. The lock-up on the blade is so good and it holds the shave depth evenly and securely. And for a paltry $12, you can't go wrong. Half that price is the blades so this razor is really about $6. If you want a shavette that'll shave well, I'd recommend this. It's no beginner's shavette, more for the experienced, but it'll do what it needs to do with aplomb.

Functional and attractive but not the best.
My husband and teenage sons have been learning to use straight edge razors. I ordered this one so they wouldn’t need to share. I think this is a good deal because for a very reasonable price you get both the razor and 100 blades. The razor itself is functional and the wood handle is attractive, but my husband said that the hinge on it is not as smooth as his other one and it made it harder to keep a steady angle while shaving. He also said there was more wiggle at the joint…it just didn’t feel as sturdy. I don’t think this is the highest quality razor or blades you can get, but I wouldn’t expect it to be at the price it is listed at. This seems to be a good budget straight razor with a generous quantity of replacement blades.

Decent but not great.
The razor is nice looking but feels a bit flimsy in hand. I was hoping for a more substantial/professional feeling razor but this feels kind of cheap. The blades sent with it aren’t super sharp so they pulled at my hair even when new. This works, but I will probably upgrade after I find one that I like more.

Nice quick-blade change system, though they dull quickly
The wood handle and metal mechanism are both decent quality, and the device has a nice feel while its in your hands. The blades are super easy to change out, with a slick sliding mechanism to hold them in place...you barely have to touch the blades at all...which is good: they are so thin that they actually dull pretty quickly. After just two neck shaves I can already feel drag on the blade meaning it needs to goNot a bad device, and with 100 blades, it should keep me shaving in style for a while

Boyfriend rates it 8.5 out of 10
So my boyfriend shaves his face pretty regularly because his facial hair grows fast. The razor isn't too heavy so if you are used to a heavier razor, you might have to readjust your technique. The blades that come with it are a tad flexible, but the razor makes sliding them in and removing them easy. It does get the job done.

Pretty good for the price
I got this for my husband and he liked the wood design and the overall presentation of the razor. He thought it was pretty good for the price it is at but wishes it was just a little bit sharper so it is not getting stuck. Overall its a good product.Pros:-Comes with many extra blades-Nice razor with wood designCons:-wish it was just a little bit sharper
