What I expected from the book's description.
I used it to broaden my understanding of the late antiquity underpinnings of today's society.

Typical brilliance, not redundant with The World of Late Antiquity
I'm rapidly reading through this book for the first time. Admirers of Brown will not be disappointed, even if it's a touch less polished than the more famous titles. This is natural, as this book is based on a set of lectures. My main concern in buying it was whether it would be redundant with The World of Late Antiquity--it is not; there's plenty of fresh insight here. I might have given this book 4/5 stars in relation to Brown's very best work, but I wanted to help offset the 1-star review which Amazon is weighting extra for being a verified purchase. Fantastic read, worth the purchase!

Too academic
If this book was any drier, you could eat it as a cracker.
