The best I have found so far
For a decade my 83 year old technophobe father got by with a very simple Doro phone that packed up a few months ago. We replaced it with another one that he couldn’t get one with and we seem to have been struggling ever since.Part of the problem is that he needs something ridiculously simple, yet at the same time the small screens on many phones for the elderly are surprisingly small and have fiddly keyboard options or menus.Looking closer at the SwissVoice the phones appear to be made by Alcatel, which is a brand I know well from the past. My first impression was the phone seems to be quite well made and certainly better than the Motorola I used for a few years before switching to the iPhone. It’s a sensible size, not too heavy and nicely finished.Although this is marketed for the elderly they may struggle with the initial Android setup process and need some help, whether starting from scratch or copying from another device. For some, this may entail setting up a Google account before they can even begin and help logging in to wi-fi. Once completed the rest is fairly straightforward. This is really a very simple phone to use. It offers some of the advantages of a smartphone without the full blown complication and offers nice large text inside clearly defined areas, which is clearly better than most of the really basic phones typically used by the elderly. To switch it on simply press and hold the button at the top for a couple seconds and the same again to switch it off. The same operation also brings up an emergency option. I also like the SOS feature on this phone and the buttons all click with a reassuring feel. The torch can be activated by flicking the switch on the side, so no messing around looking through menus, while the volume is controlled via simple controls on the left side. All in all, everything here has been configured to achieve a nice mix of functionality without going overboard on the complication. The videos on this web page are a useful guide for reference. You will see that the interface is nice and big with a clear large keyboard, swipe free menu and big touch keys with a long press. Is it perfect for you? Maybe not, since every individual is different, however this is the best phone I have found so far for somebody in their 70s or 80s struggling with technology, yet wanting to stay in touch.

Basic but expensive for what it is phone
I have owned and reviewed multiple smartphones on Amazon, including ones aimed specifically at older adults who may need phones to accommodate sight impairments or manual dexterity issues. This is the first time I have reviewed one by this particular manufacturer, SWISSVOICE. At the time of review in early April 2024, this S510-M is listed at £149.99.I have tested this for a week using a GiffGaff PAYG SIM card. It comes in a sturdy branded box, which is much bigger than it needs to be. Inside are the phone (parts), charger, cable and instructions. When it arrived, unusually for a phone, it required assembling. This for me was an instant concern for something marketed at the elderly, who may not be tech-savvy. I think tech should be simple to use, no matter how tech-savvy the customer. However, once the SIM card was inserted, I found a few other issues. For a start, the buttons feel very cheap, and have the look and feel of a toy, rather than a smartphone. Even though I have good manual dexterity, I found the physical buttons quite slow and almost unresponsive to use. That said, the screen is a decent enough size, and the touchscreen was good and responsive and was easy to navigate. The ringtones are basic, but very loud for those who are hard of hearing. Battery life seems okay. I have tested this on a couple of calls, and the sound quality is pretty good, and the speaker volume is also good and clear. In summary, there are some good features with this phone, but one or two significant issues let it down. Also, at the current price it is quite expensive for a relatively unknown brand (you can get major branded smartphones for around £50 cheaper on Amazon).

Confusing
I am very confused by this phone. I have an apple phone which does not have the required micro SIM card so I cannot insert a sim to test the connection. However I did boot the phone up to try connection to my wifi and the applications installed. I am pretty good with phones, computers and tablets having worked with them most of my life and got completely frustrated with this device so much so I turned it off.It asked me multiple questions (as normal) for set up. Once booted up all the applications are out of date and required downloading, more questions then security had been setup to not allow me to download and then install said apps. It’s also all centred around google and the applications associated with google. If you are ok with those it will probably be much easier or you have a younger member of the family also great. For an elderly relative forget it, it’s far too complicated to setup.
