Hello, The water heater can be used without expansion vessel. The water heater is supplied with an t&p-valve (Temperature and Pressure valve), it is already pre-assembled on the cold-water inlet of the boiler.

Does it use a standard sized element that can be changed if required?

If needed you can order a replacement heating element in our webshop. There is no standard heating element.
