Expect a good read!
If your interested in. Football books and stats this is a very good cover on how the records work. It's high level with a little deep dive into each subject and the chapters build well to explain how the premier league teams use XG

A must-have for any passionate football fan
As somebody who has an interest in data analysis in the sport of football, this is perhaps the best book I’ve read on the subject. I cannot recommend this enough to anybody interested in analytics or somebody curious about the subject. This book does a wonderful job of explaining various vital parts of the topic and making it digestible and approachable. The prose is also fantastic and once you begin reading it, you will find it difficult to put down.I’m a huge bookworm, but I don’t usually leave reviews on here. However, I had to write one for this brilliant book. I can see myself rereading this multiple times.

Highly Recommend
This book differs from others on the subject in that it puts xG into action, applying it to real life examples (i.e. Liverpool’s title winning season, Timo Werner’s finishing at Chelsea, etc.)A very good read, I’d highly recommend.

A new perspective to an old sport
As someone that loves everything regarding football, it’s fantastic to read a book that looks at football from a different point of view, especially looking at how it’s used in the modern game. Top read

Another insightful book from the xG OG, James Tippett
Tippett was instrumental in xG becoming a key statistic in football analysis across the globe, and his second book on the subject is another captivating read from a pioneer in football statistics and strategy.

Not what I expected
I had hoped this book would completely outline all the parameters which lead to xG values. It doesn't!There is some interesting discussion over various parameters and the general idea of how they are defined, but no flesh on any of it. Its vaguely interesting to read the discussion, but encyclopaedic detail on all contributors to xG and then a large number of worked examples is not forthcoming, so overall I was disappointed. I'm not sure if this is my fault for reading too much into the blurb. After reading this book, I'm not able to perform my own xG calculations, given any arbitrary situation on the football field. So in my opinion, the Author does not deliver on the title. The book does contain some other anecdotes and stuff, and most football fans will find that intersting

Brilliant read
Thoroughly entertaining and well explained. The book really brings xG to life, and has opened my eyes to a different way of thinking about the game
